Got the alternator rebuilt today

$32.50 plus tax. Whheeeehaaaaa Sure saves over the cost of a new one. Doides were fine, it needed a new voltage regulator.

I took it out last evening in 25 minutes flat. The first time took almost 2 hours. Reinstallation will take a little longer.

The more I wrench on this car, the easier it gets.

Did they put it on for you or did you replace the old voltage regulator?

Yeah, it took me about 45 minutes to pull it out, to put it all back together was a lot more difficult. (1 1/2 hrs.)

Putting the white shroud around the alt. was so *&#$ hard until I just twisted the alt. counter clockwise about forty-five degrees. The other problem is getting the fan to be perfectly straight without it rubbing against the housing.

I ended up just driving it and grinding away some of the fan.
Oh well, it worked at least.

I flipped to a new regulator and will use the old Good one for a spare because I was in there. It'll go into the on-board spare parts smugglers box.

Yes, my alternator is a Valeo, and the new voltage regulator is Paris-Rhone, and they had it in stock. It's Pryor's Starters & Generators here in Richmond, Va. I dropped it off at 8:30, they tested, installed the new vr, and I picked it up at 4:30.
