The squeak returns

Few weeks ago my car developed a very annoying squeak which seemed to emanate from the fan belt. Replaced the belt, squeak still there but a couple of days later the squeak stopped. Sorted, so I thought...

This week the squeak returned.

I removed the belts (AC & fan) and briefly ran the engine to see if it was the belts. Alas, it isn't. The squeak seems to be coming from the lower pulley area and increases/decreases with engine speed.

Ideas please - preferably inexpensive, quick to fix ones. Bet I don't get many of those...

Look for debris in the engine mount console (bracket around lower pulley). Jim

Seems clean but I will double check. Any other thoughts?

Could always do the quick sqiurr of wd-40. It wont last long, but sometimes it helps. sounds to me like the pully isn't perfectly straight. mine was a little warped and made a really annoying squeak

Checked the mount bracket - all seems good, no debris to be found.

Slater, do you mean the lower pulley?

Beginning to think my problem is perhaps not 'technical' enough for the forum.

My last try at the cheap pool of knowledge, if not it's off to the ever appreciative, ever expensive P-CAR mechanic.

It's fustrating these squeeks.

My squeek stays away on colder days. On warm days and after fast turns it comes out to sing. I have not figured it out yet. Good luck with yours.

The area well below my lower pulley was full of gunk and grease. When I got degreaser in there I was able to fish out what looked like electrical connector wire covers. How they got there, I dont know.

I hope this is not your alternator, sounds expensive if it is.
