Axle/CV Joint removal--How?
I need to clean, repack CV's and replace the boots on a '67. The manual I have says to remove axles by taking loose at the trans. and removing stub axle from the hub. It looks like it would be easier to simply unbolt the outer CV from the stub axle. Can it be done that way or should I go by the book? Advice appreciated.

Does this car have Nadella axles with Hookes-type universal joints or was it converted to the Lobro axles with the true CV joints? From your description it sounds like it was converted to Lobro axles; if there is a bolted joint at the wheel it has Lobro's and one doesn't have to remove the stub axle from the hub assembly. Simply unbolt the flanges at both ends of the axle and remove the whole assembly. Be sure you clean any debris out of the screw head wrenching features before putting a wrench or key to them; some of the screw heads require a special bit to fit the wrenching features. Cheers, Jim

Thanks Jim. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I do have the Lobro half-shafts. I have done this job on a 914 but never on a 911. This car has standard allen-head bolts rather than the 12-point type I found on the 914. And they are packed full of 35-years worth of gunk!
