My jerry rigged brake cooling system actually worked...

Finally had a chance to test out my budget brake cooling system on the track yesterday. Happy to report that after 100miles of track driving, i experienced no fade. Ambient temps were about 60F.

Here is what i did.
1-Removed the factory dust shields
2-Installed Smart Racing Hub block off plates
3-Jerry Rigged the factory 993 air deflectors to fit my 88.
4-New Zimmerman cross drilled rotors all around

Prior to doing this, i was experiencing significant fade at the track.

Some pictures of the set up before i removed the dust shields...

Heres another neat and cheap way to cool your brakes like a pro:

Just use the stocker dust shields and cut a big hole in it. Pair it up with some ducts from IOPort racing and you're set.

Backing plates were $50 from Smart Racing, not sure if Pelican sell them. The 993 deflectors were under $40 from Porsche, they are reinforced in the back and have a scalloped design, probably difficult to duplicate from sheet plastic. Took about an hour or two to install.

The hose method would probably offer better cooling but was a little bit more involved. Would have gone that route if the 993 set up did not work.

Stickers make one's 911 go faster only if they are on the outer sheetmetal.

What's the Porsche part number on the deflectors (I assume there is a LEFT and RIGHT)?

Are there deflectors for the rear too?

I just went to the local Porsche dealer and asked for the 993 brake air deflectors. I'll see if i could find the reciept, the sticker is no longer legible. Yup, left and right. No deflectors for the rear.

No drilling on the vehicle, right? It looks like you just made some holes in the deflector. Do you have any pics of the other side?

How do you keep them from spinning around on the suspension arm?

I think these are the part numbers (I found them on an NSX site - they use them in the aftermarket for brake cooling too!):

"The parts in question are Porsche #993-341-083-00 (left) and 993-341-084-00 (right)."

No drilling. There is a horizontal rib in the back of the deflectors that will rest on the A-arm. Just zip tie it tightly and off you go. Be sure to remove the factory dust covers though.

What do the Smart Racing hub block off plates look like? Do they have a website?
