How to build a Slant Nose Turbo Look 911
.
|
Here are some fenders...
http://betterbodiesmotorsport.com/usedparts6.html and more here http://betterbodiesmotorsport.com/usedparts1.html |
Are you sure you want the slant nose? That look isn't too popular these days.
I would go with the widebody but not the slant nose. If you ever want to sell it (we should not work it from that end, I know), the regular widebody will be easier to unload. George |

there are tears in my eyes.
|
Are you doing this while typing? lol
|
having trouble typing and wiping.
|
Hey, Sunset!
What did you do with the stock flares? |
Rick I do think your car is sweet... no offense intended it looks evil. I just hate seeing good cars getting cut. It's like watching plastic surgery on TV.
|
My first P-car was a slope. Man, you get a lot of attention from the honeys when you drive one!
|
i am not into the slant personally, but the how-to pictures are great! cutting off sheet metal and welding will never be something i am brave enough to do by myself. i cant wait to see the finished product. hurry.
|
I like slants when they are done completely over the top... its got to be a complete package: wheels, paint, tail, the works. Its when they go half-way and run gold Borbets or use a turbo tail that I quickly lose interest. There was a vid on here not too long ago of some rediculous twin-turbo slant beasty with crazy custom paint that I really liked.

Its screams Fender Buy Me
:D
|
What did you do with the fuchs?

I did my car in '89 (and finished in '90). I probably wouldn't go this route presently. However, I learned a lot and I still love the look of my car. To each his own. |
Please don't stop now. What are you doing, tack welding the fender in position and then cut both and butt weld?
|
Not crazy about the look, but the pictures are just great! Very interesting to watch.
|
Sent you an e-mail about buying the cut-off flares.
|
I like the conversion. I'm doing it somewhat to my '71T. Went to Michigan and picked up front end and rear, already had big rear fenders. Mine also will be black with Etoile spoked rims running 225's on front and 345's in rear. Difference is my lighting is in the front air dam as opposed to pop up lights. All Fiberglass for weight loss and looking at a short stroke 3.2 with an added turbo and a early 915 w/lsd. Suspension is nearly complete with massive updates to complete suspension. Should be extremely fast and light and incredible handling. Not Concours but extremely fun! good Luck!!!

Very nice, weld as you cut...very nice...after my flare work, I'd say that the method he's using is probably the smartest I've seen.
And doing it with a cigar! The only way to cut a 911.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1085700121.jpg |
Being as I own a cigar store........ Watchya smokin?

What I'm wondering is.......what happened to the yellow turbo those flares came off of?
|
Very interesting stuff going on here. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Another technique for attaching flares is to leave the old flare in place and line-up and attach the new one with screws. As you trace-cut the new flare with a saw or disc cutter (with 1/32" disc) you push the old flare out of the way and make your tack welds. Zero guess work and perfect fitment.
By the time you get to the end the old flare falls off from underneath and you're ready to complete the welding between the tacks. This technique could not be used here because the brake vent box was attached to the donor flare....not a typical scenario. Geof, the saw used is your standard body saw.... http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=113 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1085751957.gif |
Are those TIG welds?
|
Not to hijack this thread but if you like the look I've got the parts for you to make your own slope nose. FWIW I dont think that these parts are made of gold.If you have any entrest please contact me at rgb48mail@fuse.net to not clutter this thread. Thanks, Randy

If you have factory front fenders I'm interested.
|
Sunset, what width cut did the nibbler make for the weld ?
|
Charlie,
I think he used an pnuematic body (hacksaw) and a disk cutter. Probably between a 1/32' and 1/16" gap. |
Sweet. Makes me want to get out my Flock of Seagulls cassette and watch "Weird Science" and "Risky Business".
What do the last 3 letters on his license plate stand for? |
Do any of you guy remember a shop called "Sport Performance" out of San Jose, CA? One of the first to do 930S conversion work. What ever became of them?

How come I don't see any screw holes after the welds? Do you cut right on the screw line?
I hate to ask this since you guys probably get $120 / hour but any chance you could show some before and after pictures of where you grind down the weld line? We're all getting an education here. |
