Tramsmission rebuild session in NH, June 5

Want to learn how to rebuild your 915 transmission?

Aren't getting enough abuse at home?

Is your mother-in-law visiting next Saturday and need to visit um, a sick friend in NH (cough, cough)?

Saturday June 5th I (and whomever wants to help) will be rebuilding the transmission for Jane Bennett's (see this thread ) car restoration.

PM or email (preferred) me if you need directions.
-Chris

Maaan....I wish someone was doing a transmission or engine rebuild here in the Bay Area that I could sit in on. I'd even bring the soda and pizza...

Oh well...I just got my 915 rebuild and returned to me today. With Turbo Tie Rod upgrade, new motor mounts, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sliders/syncros replaced, and all headlights replaced....$3300 at my mechanic.

I'm sure you guys will end up with a much lower cost for the rebuild. The labor was $1800 outta that previous $3300 figure....

Bruce Anderson might have a rebuild class later on in the year...

Yuhp, I'm gonna be there...for the engine rebuild class.

Hopefully after todays bill though, I won't need to do a engine rebuild for another 100K miles. Nevertheless, it'll be good to be prepared and knowledgeable for when the ill fated day arrives.

A lecture portion with "hands on" parts to be seen and held would be useful but unless there are "hands on" sessions with 2 or 3 people taking apart, inspecting and reassembling the own individual transmission such a class will not be comprehensive. Jim

Hey Chris, should I bring tools or anything up with me? And what time are you wading in?

Hi all,
Looks like we've got a good crowd coming. Here's a rundown of what's and when's:

When:
9am Garage open, coffee, donuts, first time I say "What's your name again?" Minor teasing commences.

10am Start transmission rebuild? I want to give the guys travelling from other states a chance to get here so let me know if this is too early. The really good abuse begins.

12am Lunch 5th time I say "What's your name again?"
I have the Ruf video and in-car video of my last crash if you are interested. Someone will need to cover Jane's eyes while we watch the crash. I don't know if the track hook is quite set yet.

4ish Done. OK, done-ish. Who knows when we'll finish.

Please:
- Call me if you are running late but still want to join us for lunch so we can order enough food.
- Chrissy ("the boss") sleeps late so keep the squealing tires, horns and shooting to a minimum.
- Feel free to work on your own projects in the driveway or the garage. No one has called dibs on the one garage space yet.

Park your Porsche in the driveway so I can take a nice group picture. Let me know if your car is a real leaker and I'll put something under it. See you Saturday.
-Chris

P.S. I have plenty of tools. If you want to use a leakdown tester, compression tester, oscilloscope, hydraulic press, manometer, etc. this would be an excellent opportunity.
