I'm pretty new to this board, but it's the GREATEST! Free psychological, family,and mechanical advice, plus a list of 356 resources. All from one posting! I love it, and it's a great reassurance for me when my wife has 'positive' opinions and methods for dealing with this stuff that aren't quite what I had in mind.
Kid's now under driving restriction for 60 days; She had fun fun fun till her daddy took the bimmer awaay. I think she understands that she showed bad judgement, and that there's a price to be paid. She didn't wreck or hurt anybody, but knows she could have. I think we'll have her driving with better understanding when she returns to college in August. She'll also be working this summer to help with the costs ( about 3k). Kevin and Speeder; I'm in the great void of Oklahoma, really don't know the usual cast of characters. I'll be posting body and parts pics when I move the beast, right now it would take a Cat D5 and steel cable too roll it on those tires. More soon.

I've been in this business for nearly 30 years and one thing I've come to see as a "fact" is once a car is under the cover with the intention of "getting to it someday" it's a wite off. I'd bet one out of a hundred are ever really restored. I know of an '89 Corvette that was parked because it blew a little blue smoke when started. It's still there, just sitting waiting for someday.

Your right Lynn. Even as a father-son project, you pretty much have to toss out the Kelly Blue Book and accept that some projects are a labor of love and not a wise investment. I'd be willing to bet that many of us on the board here have more money or time invested in a particular toy then what it is actually worth. But thats kinda what makes it all so fun.

Lynn,
Although he doesn't actually come out and state it I believe he ended up getting the car away from the guy who said he would never sell it. So now it's sitting under a tarp in his driveway.

No' I'm the old putz who's owned it for 27 years and won't ever sell it. It is ( or was) a very nice car, and I took it apart for repaint and refreshment in the mid 80's, then got waylaid by kids and marriage. My just-turned 17 year old had his first track day in a 911 last week at Hallett , and has developed a great enthusiasm for old p cars. Swears he'll help me get it going again.

lynn, I'm pretty sure that car deserves a full write-up, or at least some more pics and description. If it's already out there, point me in the right direction.

Oh dear. I got a '72 in January of '00. I stripped and dipped it, and got "mostly" through the metalwork. But since then I have:
-bought a house -obtained a master's degree -gotten married -bought another '72 in better condition, so am restoring that now -had a daughter I'm already at the 4.5 year mark...am I screwed? Am I a putz? Was Geoff ******** right???
