The dash pad / windshield replacement project is done!
Oh man, is it a great feeling to take my 911 out for a drive this afternoon since the last 10 days was spent doing this:
Monday 1/31: ![]() Tuesday 2/1: ![]() Thursday 2/3: ![]() Wednesday 2/9 (TODAY): ![]() Yes, those are dead gnats stuck on the glass! Used dash pad from John Walker, $250 on MasterCard New German OEM rubber seal from Pelican Parts, $50 on Mastercard New PPG windshield, $200 installed on Mastercard View of oncoming headlights through a rock chip and sand pit free glass looking over a crack-free dash pad... PRICELESS!!! |

Did you install the windshield yourself or a shop did it for you? If you did it yourself, could you tell us briefly step by step. What about the liner inside? How did you handle that?

Dang darryl, there's another project to add to my list.
is the "new" dashpad vinyl? looks to be... they seem to stand the test of time without warping better than the leather.

Hey Andy!
That amazing original 1969 911 dash pad is indeed vinyl... 36 years old! Some very careful application of my Black & Decker heat gun got the little skirt around the front edge to lay perfectly... it was as crisp as a potato chip! I held my breath as the windshield installer pulled the cord out of the rubber seal as he seated the windshield, praying it wouldn't catch that skirt and snap it right off! Gents, when I start animating things like dash installations, call the guys in the white coats.... however, check out my 914's targa top storage... ![]() That's getting pretty close to LA-LA-land... |
