Intermittent starting problem

Newbie alert ! i have had this problem twice ,about a two weeks ago and just (a few hours ago) it might not sound like much of a problem but would like to get it sorted before the problem worsens.
On these two occasions the engine was warm -up to first white marker.
i had switched the engine off then tried to restart it,the engine turned over ok but would not start,i tried about ten attempts to get the engine going then i left the car for a few minutes because i could smell fuel .After 4 mins or so i tried again and it started ok except for a squeeling v-belt type noise which dissapeared shortly after.
The second instance i stalled the car at a junction and it refused to start straight away ,again after a few minutes (which seemed like hours !) it started ok but with that squeeling noise for a short while after.
ive only had the car a short while and driven it on about 20-30 occasions.
My car is a 88 carrera euro spec it has 107,000 miles on the clock and had a full 12k mile service about 10k ago(although this was back in jan 2000) and has had two porsche garage oil changes since (the last one at 105,000 miles).
any ideas?
cheers stu

Sounds like it was possibly flooded? I know on several occasions I either flood my engine, or there is not enough gas in the carbs. The car will try to turn over but won't start. I think I need to get my webbers rebuilt.

I think i flooded it trying to re-start it the first time it happened, hence the smell of fuel.
Oh well i guess i will try a new set of plugs change the v-belt-the cheapest options first !
