Why get a numeric gauge? All you need to know are the markings on the gauge:

See of you can clean up, or get a new ignition switch cover (p/n 911.613.160.01.70B) too! :D That piece of plastic goes a long way toward renewing the look of your dashboard. Simply unscrew it to remove.

It's not metal?

I was looking at mine and it's dull as well. I was going to use some Gun Bluing solution to revive. Oh well.

MichiganMat 06-04-2004 10:27 AM

use a heat gun, use it carefully.

vash 06-04-2004 11:39 AM

i have never in my life, used a heat gun "carefully". i used to work at a video store and we needed one to shrinkwrap. let's just say, i never got back into the shrink wrap dept....
see you at partsheaven, michigan matt.

Nice car Cliff. Congrats!

HeatGuns rule. They can melt stuff, burn stuff, kill stuff, what else can a guy ask for. A perfect tool.

You can melt the top layer of the key guard and burn off that old oxidized plastic and it will look like new. The "careful" part is there because you can melt the plastic enough that it may not screw back onto the key switch. As I always say, why buy new when you _might_ be able to fix it for free.

KTL 06-04-2004 01:30 PM

Yep, the switch cover is plastic. It's got a couple small holes around the outer edge that you can stick in something pointy to twist it off.

You could probably use a mild abrasive like #000 steel wool or a 3M abrasive pad to clean off the white oxidation crap? Never thought of using a heat gun. I too would ruin it......... :D

Speaking of heat guns, I recently found that one works great for getting that black asphalt goop off the strut tower. Clean up with a little solvent and you're all set. Sorry to get OT, but figured i'd pass the tip along.

Nice Cliff!

Awesome car. Cameras were made to snap a rear quarter shot of a white 911!

She looks like a real charmer.

Congrats!

jason2guy 06-04-2004 01:39 PM

thats very cool. keep it stock and dont go puttin big fiberglass things
all over it

goat 06-04-2004 01:46 PM

Thats a great looking car.
My two cents... I kept with the stock temp gauge and read up on were the temps are at the marks.
try a plastic conditioner before removing the switch plate it might help.

Do you have thoughts of lightening it up yet?

I think your old '75 needs a trombone cooler. It'll be perfect for that Texas heat :-) Perhaps you have time to trade out the carrera cooler before the flatbed arrives to pick her up. Remember, on the SC, the oil lines are already in place. You just need to exchange the coolers.

I have the stock trombone cooler on my SC and on that last Mines Rd drive my car got up to around 245 degrees going up the back side of Mount Hamilton (mostly in second gear). During daily drives along the peninsula the temp does not exceed 210 in the summer.

See you at the swap on Sunday.

Cliff - the car looks fabulous, delighted for you mate.

Cliff:

Your new SC looks fabulous! WHITE is THE best color on SC's and Carrera's by far...ok, silver too. The white 911's look like race cars waiting for their numbers. Damn, I wish my black Carrera was white.

Awsome buy Cliff!

Sincerely,

Mike
