To those that have removed AC

Have you ever considerd re-routing the fresh air supply to the center dash vents? One of my biggest gripes about 911 creature comfort is the fact you can hardly feel any fresh air coming in when you set the top left lever to the right anf turn on the fresh air blower. If I yanked the AC I would be very tempted to try that.

Charlie,

Just for the reason you describe, I left the A/C blower in the smuggler's box when I did the A/C delete in the '87 Coupe. Doesn't weigh all that much, but I wanted some additional "face level" air for the car, and the A/C blower accomplishes this very nicely through the center vents.

Yup I did just that. Back dated the heating, removed the 'fresh air' fan, and ran the hood intake vent to the center vents using a '66 hood duct adapted to the stock vent duct. Now I have great HOT heating (I removed the engine blower, and booster fans), and fresh cool air at the same time (warn feet, or defrost, and cool air for upper body). And I even can access all the behind dash stuff without a hassle. Email if you would like pixs.

I did what Tom did and I left the A/C blower in the smuggler's box. Now all you do is turn on the A/C rotary fan knob in the center console and you get fresh air thru the center vents.

I removed everything. From the cabin, you can peek through the vents and see the trunk - no obstruction at all. I get plenty of air blowing through the vents when driving around, air just enters the trunk and vent on the hood and blows right through the vents. Of course I can't turn it off either. Good thing I live in Texas and its a track car.

That appears to be the original intent of my 79 ROW. On the left side of my fresh air fan is an opening that is the same size as the tube on the center vent. And my controls inside clearly indicate either up/down or center vent.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Well I got quite a few PMs on this so I'll post the info on the board also.
The yellow fiberglass portion is off my 1966. I'm not sure of the function it served on it, as it had no air outlet, just one drain line. Of course the Speedster surly did not need any more fresh air so I cannibalized it. So I'm not sure if all the early 911 had this style. It might be just as easy to fabricate a duct. Anyway I added the outlet (white oval duct) and one extra rainwater drain pit (silver) since the airduct outlet divided it in half. It was pretty simple since it was already fiberglass. The existing ducting for the center vent has to clear the windshield wipers, so I just sectioned it in half, and trimmed it so it would line up with the outlet of the hood vent duct. Although it is plastic, I just roughen it up and fibreglassed it together, and it is super strong. Then just some 2 inch heat riser hose (it is very bendable, so that is why I used it), to tie the two ducts together. Only thing not showing in the second picture is the water drain lines coming off the silver fittings, they tie into the existing drain. The system works great, and as you can see, tons less junk. The heater direction valves (defrost or foot heat) are blocked off internal so they don't vent to the visible openings now.
I also included 2 pictures of the engine compartment bypass duct I made, for when I removed the engine compartment blower fan

Yellow is duct off '66 and black is existing center duct, cut/flipped and trimmed (nasty fiberglass work is because no one was going to see it under the dash)

This reminded me of a post that a pelicanite friend made a while back. This might provide some inspiration:

I fabricated it in-house (well in-garage).
And it is the only one I made. It probably took me 20 man-hours since I'm an untrained newbie with CF
