Need HELP with Oil Heating

I have a stock v-ram with Cyntex chip in a 77 coupe. I've had a kit put into the oil line thermostat and tried a totally different thermostat which does open at 180 and keeps it there except at the track. This is a dedicated track car. I have a large B&B cooler in the front RSR bumper with good air flow, a 964/993 cooler under one fender and a Carrera cooler under the other. Still the oil temp creeps up to 250 after about 5 hard laps. It holds over 16 quarts with all those coolers. Also, I have no O2 sensor as the harness I got doesn't have the wires for it. It came direct from Porsche as a cup car harness. As soon as I let off and do one cool down lap the temp drops to 220 and by the time I back in the pits the temp is down to 180. I.ve had the guage checked out. Any ideas?? PLEASE !!

Right, but what? Could the Cyntex chip be causing too much timing advance or too lean a fuel mixture? But wouldn't all these coolers make up for that??

Could all those coolers be restricting the flow of oil ? After I check the mixture and timing, I might be inclined to try bypassing everything but the front cooler.

I have pretty much the same setup as you, 3.8RS spec euro vram custom Cyntex chip, no O2 sensor

Bill, what size are you oil lines. I used AN 16 to plumb the coolers but have a size 12 out of the engine to the thermostat as it was supplied by B&B with their exhaust. Could that be the weakest link??

I use the factory hard line, but I know several people that have the B&B supplied line w/o any issues. I have several feet of -12 connecting the cooler to the factory hard lines in the sills.

Yes, temps do go up and even more in traffic. Is still suspectan issue somewhere else on your car. You have more cooling than a full race 3.8RSR

malone, my car used to read 250 all the time. a 75, with the 2.7. my car had a oil temp sender with 150 centigrade stamped onto it. my gauge in the dash was the strange mutant gauge that read up to 340 degrees. NOT 300 like most numbered gauges read to. basically the two parts did not match. i installed a used gauge with the max 300 temp and now my car only sees 210 at the most. my parts guy told me some of the 2.7 cars had mismatched stuff. maybe you are having the same "mutant" issues.

I had the guage checked against the temp of the oil in the tank with the use of a probe. the guage was correct. The temp stays at 180 all the time except on the track.
