Very Interesting tech info, Yellowbird! May I ask where you got it?

The top speed of 250 kmph/150 mph +/- would not have been any handicap on most rallies - I would say 130 mph was more than adequate 95% of the time. Probably for most club drivers on most tracks, it wouldn't be a problem either.

If the car was built off an earlier/lighter tub, would it meet the PCA requirements to run in a production type class as an SC? You could also build a cage from chrome/moly, which would be lighter than steel. There is one NOS SCRS fender available on Ebay. The starting price is $2,999, so I think it will probably be available for quite a while!

It's an expensive proposition to build one of these (but would be cool). Most people replicate an IROC or a RSR. The 3.0 MFI system alone will probably cost about $7-$10K to find all the parts you need, and have them modified for a 3.0L car. Heck, the 2.7RS stuff runs in the neighborhood of $4-$5K sometimes these days...

I'm not sure what these cars are worth - it could be that you would spend as much money making an authentic replica, versus actually buying one?

Porsche Crest SCRS

My objective to use a loophole (if you can call it that) in the PCA Rules. I really don’t care to replicate all aspects of the SCRS, just enough to pass the PCA rules. You can update/back date a 911 (I am using a 73 chassis) if you use the same bodywork as the original car. F/R bumpers are free (you can use fiberglass) so I would use 935 look for that in the front, IROC rear. 930 fenders (or add on steel flare, forget the AL but I can’t use Fiberglass) early rear Turbo rear flares. You can also use Webers instead of MFI, so with a set of JE’s (from Wayne!) and RSR cams, ported heads I should be there. I will run it as a prepared car, which allows electronic ignition, so no Bosh twin plug concerns. Of course this is my plan today; I am still working with Lance at PCA on the details. I simply want to run in the non GT run groups. It should also make an interesting street car, here in AL, home of no EPA (or other) inspections!

Didn't the Euro 964 RS use an aluminium hood. May be able to find one of those and at least cut down some weight.

What kind of mirrors are these?

And what kind of seats are these?

Thank you.

David;

This is pretty entertaining. Last I checked (3 years), the Aluminum doors were still available from Porsche for this car. If not, I know where you can at least get factory aluminum skins.
There ws a guy back east who had a complete high butterfly injection for SC/RS for sale last year, don't know if he still has it but I have his Email. If it's gone, you can buy it from Eurometrix.
Engine specs might get sticky, these cars were rated at substantially less HP than RSR's, mostly due to much milder cam timing. Ports and compression were the same.

PCA has been getting a little tougher on copy cars but from your comments and communication with Lance It looks like you have that under control.

There was a very good article in pano a number of years ago with a lot of pictures and technical info that might be helpful - sorry don't remember which one.

I have to agree this would be a fun project however as you point out the car will probably not be competitive in the class. If you want to be more competitive in a stock class and have an easier , cheaper project (albiet more common) your 73 chassis is ready made for an 73 RS copy which seem to be pretty competitive in E at #2365). You would have to pedal pretty fast in D to keep up but can drop another # 249 (#2116) and run as an RS lightweight.

good luck jeff

SCRS

Thanks Jeff,

I agree with your suggestions. I think a RS lightweight woudl be a better option, but I don't have a 2.7, and I prefer a AL case engine. I think a GT class car would be better in that I will not have the problems of trying to meet a somwhat hazy set of req. with a replica car. With a pure race car there are more options and less restrictions. I plan to go to go to some more races and observe the "behavior" of the differnet groups. What I have been hearing (and seeing) about the faster groups is not good (very agressive driving, wrecks). I ran HSR years ago and I was overall a gentlemans sport, after all, there is no $$ to win!

Regards, David

Hello David,
Yellowbird has been very thorough with his description of the SC-RS's. As a matter of fact Porsche did build 20 SC RS's, proof being the press info sheet published in 1984. A 21 st car was apparently build out of spare parts.
It is true that the front and back bumper annex spoiler were in fiberglass as was the whale tail spoiler. On the other hand the front hood as well as both fenders and both front doors were originally in aluminum.
The seats shown in the picture are actually the seat the car was delivered in. The ribbels in the door interior trim where standard, and as I recall well there were also used in the 1984 production cars. Most rally teams did change them into the RS-lightweight style trim as it either saved weight and on the other hand made more elbow space available as well as space for the roll cage.
Three cars finally came to Belgium. Two of them being used by the RAS BELGA team and the other one by the JP Gaban BASTOS team.
RAS did buy its first car on January 11 th 1984 (date of the invoice) and it was the car with chassis number 12. This car was road registered in Belgium with licenceplate CCD 621. It is this car that Robert Droogmans and his copilot Ronny Joosten did use in the 1984 and 85 belgian and european rally championships. At the end of the season 1985 the car was sold to Soulet who did use it another couple of years in Belgian rallying. It was then sold to a Belgian collector who restored the car in its original Factory trim. The old warrior is still alive and living a peacefull life in a collection in Belgium.
The second RAS car was bought on may 30 th 1984. This car previously did have a German road registration BB PW 491 (for the Bobblingen kreis). On the Fahrzeugbrief the chassisnumber that was mentionned was 3(4). This already suggests that it is not the chassis number 3 nor the 4. In 1985 this car was a total loss when J.L. Dumont did crash it in the Circuit des Ardennes rally. Unfortunatly J.L. Dumont did not survive the crash. Apparently RAS did inmediately order a new body shell in Weissach and did build a new SC RS, probably with the mechanical parts of the J.L. Dumont car. Later in the season after Thierry Reginster with copilot Geroge Biar drove the car during the rest of the season it was also sold to Soulet. The dealer who had Christies advertise his car in Paris was the man who bought the car from Soulet. Christies did advertise this car in Paris (Retromobile) as being the Droogmans car. This is absolutly incorrect and if Christies had done their homework they would have found out. Anyway the car has been sold in Paris.
The third Belgian car (chassis number 10) was the Bastos car driven in 1984 by P. Snyers. This car was prepared by JP Gaban and is in France right now.

Two pictures have been added the first one being R. Droogmans in Tielt in 1984 where he finished 2nd. The second picture was taken at the Haspengouw Rally in 1985 and Droogmans also finished 2 nd.

Why not run the 76/77 turbo case with either a 66 mm crank= 2.8 liter, or the 70.4= 3. o liter. That way you have the stronger case. With the 66 mm you have a 8500 rpm capable motor.
also I was lucky to be in Stuttgart Sept 83 at the factory. When we did the tour they were assembling the SC/RS's The worker was quite proud to show off the doors being so light- aluminum with thin glass!

Later in the engine department there were a row of SCRS motors with high butterfly throttle bodies attached to metal tube conversion stacks to accept a street air cleaner. Which interestingly had the snorkle at the flywheel end with a little intake muffler- euro noise restrictions? the normal end had a smooth cover that screwed on in the usual manner. The exhaust headers were pure RSR. They had not fitted mufflers on these palleted motors yet. The pump was not the usual mfi pump, but made by Kugelfisher (as others reported here)- a lot more compact and simpler looking (like a 6 cyl version of a BMW 2002 Tii unit) We desperately plotted to see if one could fit in our luggage, but reason prevailed. (kidding of course!)
They had one completed car in their special prep area- we could see it from windows in the factory, but were not allowed in there.
Peter Kitchak had an SCRS that he raced in historic and pca events. It was weird getting blown off by a "mile high" rally car on a road course! Don't know if he still has it- do a search for Toad Hall Racing- he lists his cars there
I guess you could describe the car as a continuation of the 74 RS 3.0

Hi,
Is there anybody out there who has the original publicity pictures of the SC-RS, and willing to sell? There were two publicity pictures:
one taken 3/4 front left side and one 3/4 back right side.
The car had licenceplate BB - PW 981
I am still searching for some original SC-RS material such as period pictures of the road and of course rally cars.
Somebody might be able to help with the list of original car owners?
Many thanks

Cooler

Hey Tweaks, are you asking if the SCRS had a trans cooler? I have an ‘85 Panorama article that shows a pic with a cooler on it.

Hope that helps.
