Replacing fron windshield, use adhesive?
so i'm going to be removing the front windshield and adding a new seal, after i clean up some rust, prime, and paint around the window area.
should i use adhesive when re-installing the window? btw, which is the correct Front Fender to Cowl seal? Pelican lists 2 possible options. thanks. |

Some people say you shouldn't need any. I bought my gasket from the host & after installing it, I had some gaps in the corners. I bought some black windshield sealant from a commercial autobody supply store & filled in under the lip all the way around. It may not have leaked without the sealant, but I didn't want to find out.

Not really sure what you mean by "adhesive," but it's my understanding that modern windshields are seriously glued in place, because they are in fact part of the airbag system, in that the passenger-side-airbag requires a secure windshield to deploy properly. If it just blows out the glass, it does the passenger no good.
Our typical 911 windshields, however, are held in place simply by a gasket and, if necessary some sealant. Adhesive is definitely not part of the system and will cause you huge problems if you ever need to replace the windshield and/or gasket. Stephan
