it's a sealed unit that plugs into a hole in the trans case. not fixable. check for a broken wire. a lot of them have been abused and taped up because a mechanic forgot to disconnect it before removing the engine and trans.

Is the sensor threaded into the tranny with 2 wires?
Sort of looks like a oil temp sensor?

no, it just sits in a recess by the passenger side axle flange, with a metal retainer wire holding it in place. it's not threaded.

ok.
I find the speed sensor as described or as pictured in the pelican parts online catalog.
The only thing on the pass side of the tranny appears about 10" away from the axel and threaded into the case.
Has anyone recently changed one on a g50 .....and maybe can take a pic?

That's the back up lights switch. It's a simple remove and replace operation. The wires just pull right out of the switch with a little tug. Just make sure to grab the terminal and not the wire. And like John said, these wires are also typically repaired because someone people thinks they need to disconnect them (and for some reason cut them) when removing the engine & trans. Thing is, they're part of the engine wire harness and don't need to be disconnected when pulling the engine & trans.

Thanks Kevin.
Is the speed sensor on the top of the tranny?
Can I easily see it from the pass side? I think I am having selective sight ...to go with my selective hearing....wife & such.

Ken,

It's not on the top of the trans. It's on the side, right next to the CV joint flange coming out of the trans. case.

The location shown in the above picture is a cutaway of the webbed differential housing cover.

I think it's located in this picture where the yellow arrow points. Which would be the driver's side. I'm pretty sure that's right because I remember routing the wire up over the top of the trans. to the other side, where the rubber grommet thing goes into the body on the passenger side? Can't be 100% sure here at work (shhhhhhh................)

Kevin. Thanks for the further info. If I cant find it now I better hang up the tool belt.
John. I swear I was looking for 15 minutes on the pass side last night!!
I never thought to look on the other side. I imagine its much easier to see when on a lift. As for a DIY, a lift might be a purchase for the new house. Being a Banker at Merrill and having a passion for these cars, the wife doesn't get it.... and is reluctant to allow a lift in her new house.
Her house ...my garage. I might make her park, her car outside.
