Poor handling

After lowering the car and a new alignment it handles very differently. Before lowering the car it was relatively stable, now, at speeds above 60mph the steering has become very sensitive and tends to “dig in” when the wheel is moved slightly. The only 911 I have driven is mine, therefore I’m not sure if this is normal, a function of lowering the car or a bad alignment. Any thoughts (I lowered the car to the European specs and installed a bump steer kit)?

Thanks

Not sure what the problem could be, but my car is lowered and handles perfectly.

To what specs was your car aligned. A 911 with a good performance alignment will be difficult the more off center you turn the wheel, it will be trying to get the wheel back to straight ahead, that's a function of the caster. If they went with toe out or 0 toe then the car will be darty, if the rear doesn't have some toe in then the car will be darty.

It may just be that you aren't used to the specs or it may be that things are off. I suppose it's even possible that the corner balance is off.

How does the car feel under braking, does the wheel stay straight?

Sounds odd.

Must be bad alignement. I had mine lowered some time ago and high speed stability was the second reason I did it (after looks). Wind it to 130+ on track days and is very stable.

What sort of shop did the work?

What are the new toe and caster settings?

There's a local place that told me it takes them the better part of a day for a 911 alignment and they do them all the time. If you took it to some place that doesnt specialize in Porsche 911's, I'd be surprised if they really knew what they were doing.

I have been warned that when you mess witht he suspension, often more than an alignmnet is needed. These cars need to be properly corner balanced as well. It can be that you have unbalanced your car. Go to a quality performance shop and have them check your balance.
