84 Carrera 3.2 emission time - no cat

Ok folks,

To avoid hauling the cat out of the attic and spending the afternoon on the swap of the fabby cat-by-pass...is it worth trying with no cat?

I heard John Walker say to pull one of the injector connectors off and take the test that way. Seems alot easier. Any favorite injectors to disable to make my chances better?

Car seems to run fairly clean although it is "Wonged" with his latest chip for the 3.2.

Any bets that I can pass?

I ran my "wonged" no cat 3.2 through our testing and it passed with flying colors.

Can you find a place that will test it without a visual? If so, you might have a chance.

Cheers,

I live in VA.

The fabby cat by pass looks just like a cat...no way to tell.

Your wonged 3.2 passed w/no disconnected injectors?

This sounds promising...

Correct, I did connect the little brown "ca smog"wires beside the ECU and it also had the Fabby bypass at the time. Now the car has 964 cams and SSI's so that should be interesting!

The last two times mine passed with flying colors. No cat, and I didn't disconnect anything. Good luck.

Has anyone tried this in CA. I am running a back dated exhaust with no cat and am wondering if I will need to spend the day relacing all the original equip? I kept everything and the place I go to doesn't even open the engine lid let alone crawl under but if it wont pass? then what happens? Also what if they do notice that you have changed thing in CA what can they do?
thanks
steve

Lots of info at http://www.smogcheck.com. If your smog devices are intact, there is a relatively low limit of what you might have to pay to make the car pass. If you have tampered with or removed any of the smog equipment, there is no limit.

I think I will try just like normal and see what happens...can't hurt.

If you want to drive all the way to Alexandria, the Shell station on Franconia Rd. is Porsche-friendly. Shop owner's name is Sami and he drives a gorgeous 993 C2S. They probably won't do a visual there and if they do, they'll let you skate. There's no fudging the computer though. That stuff gets electronically sent directly to DMV right then and there. Mackpipes on this BBS talked about getting Autothority to burn him a cutsom chip specifically for VA's emissions inspection, since he has a Euro spec. Carrera with no cat. Check with him.
