3.6 conversion- which clutch?
Putting in a 3.6 vram into a 1980 SC. Been told the stock clutch can not take the added stress. Some suggest the Sacks Power clutch and others suggest Centerforce Dual Friction. Centerforce is more than twice the Sacks. Car is on the street with 6-8 DE events per year.
Opinions with experience are invited. Thanks. |

I just underwent the transformation, and I chose the centerforce clutch. I don't have a whole lot of time on it, but I've been to a few track events and a handful of autocrosses. I like the feel of it, and it's holding up grandly so far. I don't have long term experience, but I believe Bill Verburg is still using the same centerforce clutch installed in 1994 (?) with his 3.6 conversion.
Unfortunately, I have no direct comparison to the Sachs offering.

I don't have any time with a Centerforce, but I do know the OEM will not hold up while the Sachs Power Clutch works great. I do believe you get what you pay for, so the Centerforce should be the better based on price.

Is the Centerforce the one that uses the little weights? I've seen them destroy a 3.2 flywheel and heard of one failing at a hillclimb. I'd go with a Sachs myself.

I bought my SC and immediatly replaced the worn out clutch with the Sachs option. I've got about 1500 miles on it so far and I really like it. The action is very smooth - granted, my machine is the stock 3.0 but I went with the Sachs because my wrench said it should be fine for any engine upgrade I chose in the future.

Does this mean you've found your engine? Just finishing my conversion. You're gonna like it. Jeff

Centerforce no longer uses the weighted clutch pack.
It appears they currently mill the portion where the pressure plate fingers rest - in order to create more holding pressure Craig @RS http://forums.pelicanparts.com/memb...fo&userid=18005 __________________ Craig @RS
