How do you put a 911 motor into a 912

I am considering using a 912 body for a track car project and using either a 2.4 or 3.0 ltr motor with a 915 trans. Does any one know if this is a difficult job and or how to do it. Thanks Justin

Yes, it's possible and not too difficult, especially for a track car. There are a number of posts on this topic, just search. Also a recent one (3 weeks old?)

jhelgesen is the guy to talk to...he's got a 911 powered 912E.

are you actually taking a 912 apart? or is it just a shell?

Thank you every one for your input. I think I will do it if I can close the deal on the car.

Loveland colorado eh?
I went to highschool in that town. Thompson Valley actually.
I live in CA now, but it's a nice little town. I don't remember seeing too many Porsches out that way back then...

The first 911 I ever remember seeing was a bright green one while driving through Loveland when I was like 6 years old when I lived in Berthoud. I was sitting in the back of dad's black beetle and we pulled up next to it at a light. Since that day I had wanted a 911. Now I am enjoying my 80SC on a near daily basis.

911 in a 912 car

I've done that . First, acquire a 915 shifter. Second, depending
on which year 915 you use , you will need the corresponding half shafts along with the corresponding axle stubs. The early 911,
912's had a small trans tunnel so just take a ball peen hammer
to the tight places. finally, you will need to install 911 engine
mounts if the car is a 912. cut out the 912 motor mounts and
weld in 911 motor mounts. install the 915 trans along with
the 911 engine and use these as a jig to weld in the 911 mounts.
On the early 911/912 cars a 915 will bolt right up to trans mounts.

There has to be a few guys on the list who have done this. I can't imagine it would be that difficult. I mean, what were the differences between the 912 and 911 setup?

engine mounts...the 911 mounts are about 4" farther back...the 912 mounts aren't in the corners....other than that....not much. both engines bolt on to the bellhousing the same.

wiring...and 4 pulse tach...
