Maintenance Checklists
Just finished reading the thread where a tire shop overinflated tires (put in 90psi!). The guy drove on them for a month before checking the pressure. This got me to thinking that perhaps it would be helpful for some of the members of this board to have a basic checklist of maintenance items to check. Here is what I have so far, feel free to add.
Daily: Before I get in the car I look to see if any of the tires are low or flat. Do a quick look under the car to look for any oil or brake fluid leaks. When I start the car I listen for odd noises from the engine before driving off. Weekly: Check tire pressure. At same time pull out on the tops of each wheel to check for loose wheel bearings. Visually inspect lug nuts to see if they are tight. Check oil, check clips on airfilter box. Push down on each spark plug boot to make sure it is fully seated. Inspect fan belt for wear and tension. Clean all the windows inside and out. Check brake fluid. Check windshield washer fluid. Check to see if headlights, turn signals and brake lights are working. Monthly: check torque on lug nuts. Inspect tires for wear.
