please identify these twin plug components

Hi Guys
I will be heading back to France to try resolve my ignition problems (detonation) and suspect a slipping dist. belt.
I have ordered the vent kit and new belt and figure I should probably get new caps, rotors and maybe coils?

Here are 2 pics of my twin dizzy setup from a 964 I believe.
I believe the dizzy is customized to trigger the spark? - Have read a bit about this but memory is fading.

However I believe the correct caps and coils would be for a stock 964 ignition setup?.

Please let me know what you think and if these are 964 dist. caps and coils?

Many thanks
Ben

yes, yes, and yes- to all your questions/ except the black coil looks like a SC unit (pic makes it look shorter than the alu. 3.6 unit)- great looking car and c'est si bon d'avoir une targa pour courir avec- bon voyage!

Hi ,

Yes you have a 964 distributor setup , with some custom dual cd boxes
and electronics id guess.

What you should check first if the slave distributor rotor ( the one that is driven from the main dtributor via a belt ) will turn freely by hand
if so then you have a broken belt ..that would cause your miss fires
and detonation ..i had the same thing happen to my 3.6

If you have a new belt ..its a pain but not too hard to disassemble and replace belt.

take care

Joe
that happened to me also

Thanks guys
I will order the rest of the parts of PP right now,
The symptoms are that the car detonates at higher revs when under load (over 4k revs) but I checked both banks of plugs for sparks at idle and they seemed healthly.
I am assuming the belt is slipping at higher revs if this is possible?
I will change out the other ignition components for good measure.
PS there are no apparent mechanics near its location, which is South Normandy, France.
Thanks again
Ben

Check total advance- you can run 31-32 degrees on the best gas there. If your compression is much over 10.3:1, then consider backing off the timing to 29 degrees and see how the car behaves.
Better yet- check pelican for the innovative motorsports kit. the on board diagnostic capability it gives you will enable a mechanic to dial in the carbs and timing correctly
