CPR Classic 2023
I think most of us know CPR as a pricey but well established restorer and consignment dealer for long hoods. I was surprised to read about CPR in the comment section of this, now withdrawn, auction of a 1972 911S (that appears to be entangled in litigation).
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-porsche-911s-18/ This piqued my curiosity so I searched around and was even more surprised to read unflattering recent reviews on google maps. This feels a bit bigger than just a single disgruntled customer - is there more insight into what’s happening over there? |

Rumors are not good. But an acquaintance just went there last week to check on the progress of his project. It was a painted roller and the paint looked good however, there are very few employees and tons of cars to be worked on. My acquaintance decided to pick his car up unfinished.
I was NOT THERE and didn't see anything personally. I have heard other rumors that sound bad but you know how rumors are. Ed CPR, Not to be confused with a great newer shop, Classic Porsche Rescue in Elcajon CA. |

Unfortunately my name needs to be added to the list of those that they have not paid. I signed a consignment agreement with them - they sold the car to a buyer in Georgia and have not paid me in almost a year. Andrea Doherty makes every excuse - even sent check that bounced. I filled a complaint with the DMV and the police - with this now being larger and across state lines i am going to the FBI. Everyday she has a different excuse on how i will get the $ tomorrow. Run from these guys.

There's a link within that BaT link about a consigned 55 speedster that was sold by CPR and now missing(!?) and subsequent nonpayment by CPR and now a pending lawsuit from an already grieving family. That should be enough to keep anyone away.

Jesus, that auction comments section is a mine field. Scary stuff out there now that these cars are worth something.

Still here
|
Invariably, these always take a while to surface probably due to the forgiving nature of most owners in this community but possibly due to active suppression of the rumors from insiders and I suspect less than enthusiatic enforcement when reported to the authorities. In the meantime, more victims are snared in whatever latest grifting scheme which has been cooked up. Best of luck to all here in recovering what's due.

If I read this drama right, the first owner built a business, long term, grew it to a big volume company.
He passed away? His heirs are not smart enough to keep running a business, but they keep trying, yet it’s getting worse every day. |

CPR's problems were/are basically cash flow mismanagement. I know many of the players involved and what's happening now is the result of Brian's passing. Brian was a juggler who kept all the balls in the air but not always with attention to integrity.
The overhead in that location is outrageous. Like many small businesses, deposits substituted for operating capitol. In a nut shell, too much going out and too few new contracts being signed. Deposits and consignment proceeds were being used to cover expenses. A good friend of mine [who owns one of my first 73 911S] bought a 356 from them, decided he was more of a 911 guy and asked Brian to sell the 356 for him. Long story short the CPR played hide and seek with the car and then with the proceeds of the sale. My friend [being a non-confrontational kind of guy] was patient to a fault. After months of excuses, the only way he could get paid for his 356 was to take a 911 as payment.....of course the 911 had a premium, a few thousand more. It looks like this is becoming a pretty common story.

Here is a very interesting news story about CPR Classic Porsche Restoration in Fallbrook, CA. Strongly advise all members to stay as far away from them as possible:

Sadly, CPR = CNC. These folks don't generally set out to defraud, but as the snowball gains mass as it heads downhill, pretty soon it does change in nature - from sloppy business management to criminal activities...

PS - I feel bad for the daughter. I have no idea if this is true but a decade ago or so it seemed like her father signed the business over to her (on paper). Now with Brian's passing, she's stuck holding the ball...
