any mean Boxsters out there?
So I was stuck at a traffic light and up ahead one lane over is an S. I normally don't even notice them, since they are popular and ubiquitous. (As a disclosure, I've never driven one but hear they are fun and responsive.) So, squinting in the sun, I look at it, and realize, it doesn't look half as bad. (The coupe will be awesome.) I began to compare it im my head to a 550, and wondered what's missing. Then it hit me... don't know how much it weighs, but I'm sure it's too much. I'm sure if the S was somewhere around 2200lbs, it would scream.
Does anyone have any pics of stripped out Boxsters?

There was a picture of a Boxster at a track that had the top mechanism and the inside all stripped out. Supposedly it saved around 300 lbs. That, combined with a 996 transplant, would give you a pretty mean car.

The 996 conversion is a given, but I'd just love to see some that are closer in the spirit to the longhoods. You know, "McKenna-style." Light enough that it doesn't even need stronger springs/brakes/engine b/c there's not much weight to carry. An RS version, or basically, an honest "modern 550."

There's another guy who has converted his to a coupe, added a GT3R style nose, and I think has a 3.4L or maybe a 3.6 in it. Its red yellow and blue and just a track car. It's pretty mean looking, been in Excellence.
I like the look of the boxsters with the hardtop on too, but other than a couple of track cars most of them don't really look mean.

More than 3000 lbs. The only jack I can get under mine is the Harbor Freight Alum racing jack. That heavy pig is gonna kill my jack.
I don't think I'll ever bother, but it would be interesting to see how much you could get off the thing in pounds. There's got to be an excess of 1000 lbs there somewhere. The basic car looks to be light, all alum suspension and deck lids to start. |

I think it would be unbelievably cool to reduce weight on a boxster by replacing all the steel body panels with hand beaten aluminum. Light weight and sort of "retro-mean".

As the supply of cores grows, more of these will be produced.
I'm on the hunt for the right one now. It will be a completely gutted, street legal hot rod built in the true Gruppe B tradition!
