The best way I have found to do this is to get the boot on the flange before you put it on the driveshaft. My procedure is as follows:
1. Install boot on flange. 2. Slide small end of boot over driveshaft. 3. re-install CV joint onto shaft. 4. push flange back on CV joint. 5. insert retaining clips onto boot ends and driveshaft end. 6. Install on car. I hope this helps!! Cheers, James

are you installing or removing? if youre installing wrap the splines in
electrical tape and grease it up. worked for me. if youre removing, whats the point? buy new ones and rip the old ones off. oh yeah and what ever the case remove that cv joint off the boot before doing anything

i clamp the cv in a vise, (across the diameter), tap the metal flange on, then use a dull hooked tool to work the boot in place. it is a PIA, but you get better at it after doing a couple. then tap the flange off the cv after installing the clamp, and put the boot/flange onto the axle shaft first, followed by the cv.

I just did this the other week-end. As James said, fit the boot to the flange first. I used a little silicon spray to lube the inside of the boot, then gently stretched it on over the flange. Then work the boot onto the axle shaft and install the CV joint. Should only take a minute or so.

The only success I've had is as the others have said - before the boot/flange assembly is on the axle. It's impossible once they're on the axle and full of grease. Infuriating, to say the least. Had two pop off yesterday during an engine drop.

Won't the boots with the built-in flanges fit your CV's?
IF not, or if you are determined then use the dull hook or padded pliers methods above. Good luck. |

They are on! I don't exactly know how, but I followed the consensus, and put them on with the flange/cv off the axle. Like they had to be "worked over" the top, the last edges a REAL PAIN..to the hands, and I used gloves
