When are the So Cal guys going on a drive?
I have seen meetings all year about everyone else grouping up and driving but the So Cal Porsches. Isn't it about time we picked a highway and had a little fun. Any suggestions??

On a whim, my Dad & I drove up to the Gold Pan for breakfast yesterday morning. It was a little warm when we got back down but not too bad. I kept thinking that I wish I had planned BBRIV a couple weeks ago.
The summer is filling up fast for me and don’t see how we can pull it off w/o having to deal w/ the heat. If you guys can take it I’ll start looking at dates, otherwise we are looking at late September early October, and that’s the start of track season. ![]() Side note, I’ve been pretty scarce lately but have been trying to keep up as best as possible. I can no longer access PP from work, and I am in the middle of a backyard project at home. Throw some wife issues in there and I’m sure you can understand why BBRIV has been on the back burner.

If nothing else, we should at least get together for an early morning Calabasas canyon run. Next weekend Saturday is good for me.
Let's do it!!

I watched the sunset from the top of Stunt Rd. last night,
It was nice and quiet up there, just a new Ferrari spyder and a couple of road bikes. ![]() An early evening run might be nice this time of year. |

How about a drive up Angeles Crest (route 2)? It gets cooler the higher up you get and it doesn't get all that hot in La Canada where the drive begins.

Ryan: I'm up for one now, despite the heat, or later in the year. Your call.

OK, how do we get a consensus so we are all not driving at different places at different times. I liked the early evening weekend run idea. More suggestions?

(2)Yes, done by some here a month or so ago. (3)A venerable favorite, but not easy for us close to and in OC. (4)The Glendora Mtn. Road was all checked out and the meeting place decided on a while back. Jack O. has pre run it as have I. There is little or no traffic up there early Sat. mornings |

It's early evening and it's a weekend. I just wrapped up a bunch of work and Ortega highway is calling my name... OK, so it's a bit last minute. How about the weekend after next (July 10, 11)?

I'm in So. OC but I find that the cruise to Malibu worth the quality of road. When I run with the 993 rennlisters we usually meet at 7am at PCH and Sunset and leave shortly thereafter. The canyons are deserted and make the run spirited and safer due to lack of traffic. Afterwards we grab brunch at Malibu Inn/Marmalade etc(plenty of parking). By the time we're done other runs are just starting! If you skip brunch you can be back home with the family by 11am.
I'll do the parade thing too though, as I'm looking forward to meeting you guys. July 10/11 sounds good to me. |

Ok - so far here it is
Date: July 10th or 11th. Location: I am thinking PCH still. Seems easy and anybody can find it. I think Pacific Porsche and Tilo's cars are on the way too in case anybody wants to buy a 997 on the way. Time: At around 7am so those who have families can be back with them in a few hours. Evenings will take the family guys out plus they would need a good reason to get away from home. As far as cops etc. - if we are in a group, I doubt they will stop 15 Porsche drivers in a line and the speeds vary between 55 and 65 on the Laguna side of PCH. Meeting Point: Still to be decided- Is this good with most?? Suggestions and or Changes??

Just be damn sure you don't go one mile an hour over the speed limit in Huntington, Surfside and Seal Beach. Last Sunday the bull and his radar were behind a parked car. All you could see was the top of his helmut. This was in the 50 MPH zone out of Surfside headed to Seal. He is ALWAYS there. More than one bicylist has been killed along there.
A good destination is Schooner or Later, a real good breakfast place in the Long Beach Marina right on the dock. Lots of clear parking. I hosted a 914 breakfast there last year and it was a resounding sucess. Tables become scarce by 8:00AM but the wait is never too bad. They have a separate coffee bar so you can wander around with a cup. |
