I think it could be the M caliper. first used in the rear on Carreras. pretty sure it uses the same size PAD as the earlier Ate rear caliper. If nobody else chimes in I will double check my M's when I get home.

Hello,
From ATE for rear 911 application: none. The largest 2 piston cast iron (steel) caliper has 42 mmm (3.2 911). Regards, J.P. Ps. The fronts have 48 mm (3.2 911). |

yep he's correct. the M caliper is 42mm, A caliper 48mm, and S caliper is 48mm.
note: the M caliper has 3" bolt spacing, the A and S have 3.5"

A friend needs to purchase a caliper kit for these unknown rear calipers.
So these could be A front calipers mounted on the rear? |

In all likelihood, yes, especially if the calipers have 3.5" hole spacing (mounting would have to be modified). What does he have on the front? Hopefully something bigger than an 'A'.

You will find data on 911 brakes here
There are 48mm piston Ate calipers w/ 3" ears but they were never oem on any Porsche There are several versions of the M caliper differing in piston size, mount dimension and throat size There are versions of the M caliper w/ 3.5" mounts which can be bolted to 930 trailing arms. A calipers are noticably larger than Ms , there are pics on the link I posted.

I stumbled across this thread since I am in the same situation described above. The car I have (69E) came with Ate 51R rear calipers with have the 3" ear spacing with 48mm pistons. I need to get a seal kit for at least one of them. Can anyone help me with identifying what car these came from so I can find the parts?
Thanks Darren |
