Performance Chip Install

Went to install a performance chip in my '87 Carrera, but think it my already have one, but I can't be sure. The case looked untouched, but when I got into the unit the label on the chip was hand written with a 91102???? DME Number. This seems very un-Bosch like to have a hand written label on a production part. What have others found, etc...

Thanks,

Arnie

Thanks for the replies. The other weird thing is that I have a 24 pin chip.

Thanks,

Arnie

That's not unusual. I think '87 was the transition year from 24 to 28 pin.

But is the the hand written label an indication that this is an upgraded chip, or could this be a factory part?

Thanks,

Arnie

As Chris said, mid-87 was the switch to 28-pin, I think July production date?

What brand of chip were you trying to install? If it's one of Steve Wong's (911chips.com), go ahead and install it, because there's nothing better. Steve will probably read your old chip at no charge if you're curious as to what it was.
