Wrinkle paint

Any hints as to preferred application of black wrinkle paint? Is heat suggested? Suggested brands?

Thanks,
Sherwood

Sherwood,
I used some I bought from Summit Racing for my valve covers. It was a very faint wrinkle finish and came out well. If you put too much paint on you will lose the wrinkle effect. Pretty happy with results, but I would powdercoat if you can.

You sure? I didn't get any wrinkle until I flooded it on. Normal shops temps are best. 65* to 80* IMO. I did put the items in the sun when finished painting.

I used it on some Chevy VC's around the Corvette script ala Ferrari. Took me half a day to mask and 10 min to paint. Always the way, eh?

I used PJ1 Coatings Special High Temp(500deg. F) Wrinkle Finish Paint. Put two medium coats on the valve covers and then baked at 200deg F in the oven to develop a good wrinkle texture.

I just powder coated a valve cover for my Toyota today in wrinkle red. Very Ferrari like It was the first time I coated anything with a textured finish and I'm very happy with how it turned out. I'd assume the prep work is the same for paint. I cleaned it very well with brake cleaner and a green scrubbie. Then with alcohol and a lint free cloth. I then heated it up to bake off any grease and outgas the aluminum. After that it was normal powdercoating process.
It doesn't photograph well though....

I baked mine and my wife was not happy with it. It turned out well though. Eastwood wrinkle paint, black.

Those all look great -- but aren't they hard to keep clean?

Actually, the wrinkle paint is easier to maintain than polished aluminum or a flat painted surface. I just use a soft cloth to clean them once and a while to get the dust of the valve covers. The wrinkle finish seems to scatter light so irregularities are harder to spot.
