84 targa
After 35 VWs, 3 MGBs, 544 and 444 volvos, I finally in the summer of 2015 got one of the cars I used to dream about. A Porsche Targa. It's a 1984, about 98K miles. It had lots of oil leaks, and a grinding 915. After having the transmission rebuilt, and the car sitting in pieces for the last 1-1/2 years, I got motivated, fixed the oil leaks and got it running again late this summer. Don't care for the sugar scoop H4 adaptation, but it's far down the list of priorities.

Are the 6 and 7 wheels mounted backwards in this car?

Re: 6 and 7's
Faverymi-
Good eye! Yes the 205's are mounted on the 7" up front and the 225's on the 6" on the rear. The PO had the tires done, and looks like they screwed up. I noticed it when I was putting things back together such as new rear hub bearings. The tires are from 2012, and I thought about switching them now, but I should probably buy new tires because of age? Anyway I'm considering 8x16 or 9x16 for the rear, so I'm letting it ride for now.

Yeah, 7+8X16's fill out the fender wells just right, I believe that size became a factory option about '86,

Those look good on your car... must be why the 8x16's are snatched up quick. The 9x16's would be good, but like people have said... a little harder to get an all purpose tire. Still making up my mind. Rims first, then some mild suspension fixes, alignment, turbo tie rods, Euro spec, corner weighting etc.. I guess the list never really ends does it? Dan

Ride height needs to go down, but you get the picture

Hi garment. Didn't swap the deck lid, this is the original one (but the car is new to me so not sure if at some point they did add a tail and then remove it but left the rear hight higher). Probably something I need to work on over the winter to lower it a bit...

UK '71 Targa
Just got this car a few months ago.....
Williams Crawford carried out a light restoration on what was then, a good example; they just made it better! With matching numbers and in its original colour, it is a sound bet for the future. The price is less than it would be to fully restore a project car and this one will always be more authentic than restored examples. Williams Crawford (UK specialist) purchased this 911 about 6 years ago. It appeared a very genuine car requiring minimal work. However, it had been repainted in the wrong shade of white sometime previously; they decided it was well worthy of returning it to its original Ivory white. Once fully dismantled, we found the body was good, very straight and without previous restoration.* All the normal areas of horror were in fact in great shape;* kidney bowls, inner sills, floor pans (which still had the original soundproof finish), battery boxes and inner front wings. We repainted it in its factory authentic shade of Ivory white (1110), the paint code tag still remains. The locks and catches were re-plated and the engine bay sound deadening replaced with new. All original glass and trims were reinstalled. The doors were refitted with new door seals and membranes before the original door cards and tops were put back in place. Replacement headlamps, light lenses and bumper seals were used.* The black vinyl seats were in good condition, so just underwent a clean up before refitting. New original carpets in standard grey salt and pepper finish. The Targa top was refurbished with new covers, webbing and seals.* A classic Continental DAB radio was fitted. The 2.2 litre engine and 901 5-speed gearbox were removed and serviced; notably there was no evidence of any rebuilding, supporting the belief that this was a low mileage example. (approx 42,000 miles) It has received a new clutch, oil lines, fuel lines, fuel pump, filters, spark plugs, plug leads, points, condenser, distributor cap and valve adjustment plus a new v-belt and heat exchangers. The suspension and brakes were refurbished with fresh linings and new metal and rubber pipes. The beautiful Fuchs alloys (including the original spare) were correctly re-anodized and received new tyres. Final work included applying corrosion inhibitor to susceptible areas, fitting a fire extinguisher and 4 wheel alignment. This work is well documented with photographs throughout and was completed approximately 5 years ago.

Beautiful, just beautiful.......one of my favorite colors.....the aubergine color has so much more character than it does painted plain ole Henry Ford black. Please share the finished car with us. Nice work!

Must admit I was looking for a '72 coupe and came across this "always AZ" targa that belonged to a friend who lost interest in his restoration. Solid AZ car with a new paint job- just needs "a little assembly." Will be perfect here in Scottsdale- won't put the top on very often!
Hope to have it running this winter, joining my silver 914 I've had since new, and the other toys...
