Talk about detail on an ebay ad!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2455571955&category=10156

Sounds like a very honest ebay seller.

Looks pretty darn good, looks like a factory turbo-look.

Chromed Fuchs, and a rust spot, but not bad.

I'd be impressed if it actually did 149 since it's a widebody and convertible, but hey, no one believes my '88 will hit 150, so...

Hey, don't forget, my car is for sale too

Interesting how he didn't say anything about the 993 seats....hmmm

Otherwise it's a pretty car.

Definitely someone who underestands marketing and knows something about Porsches. Like the California Classix guys, the author of that ad is very good at selling the sizzle rather then the steak. Is it me or is $24K+ kind of steep for a 3.2 Carrera widebody? Sure it's "1 of 43", (is that the 1st of 43 or just one of...?) but by the time you segment down most Porsche years by model/color/options, etc, they are all 1 of a small number. Once you're up over $24K, I'd think that a potential alternative is a real Turbo rather then a Turbo Look.

For the right person, it looks like a nice car in the ad. But like I said, isn't the price sort of high considering the alternatives?

Turbo-look cars do command a premium. A few years back they were almost as expensive as real Turbos. That ebay one is the first time I've ever seen a Turbo look cab.

Why did he paint the underside of the wheel arches black? It's not a very good job (rattle can), with lots of overspray. There looks to be some kind of rubbing damage on the right side of this picture:

Nice looking car, though. I like '89 Cabs.

It's probably had some accident damage. Looks the body guy didn't bother to remove the sticker from the new fender brace.

Ok, it's a nice looking car and the guy writes a decent ad. But why does he have to write about the history of Porsche, the G50, blah, blah? Does anyone who's looking for an '89 Turbo-look NOT know all this stuff already? Why did a valve adj., new spark plugs and a new head temp sensor cost $1200? That should have been around $300-$400. Does he not realize the difference between an air flow meter and mass air flow setup? I'd be a little worried about how long he ran the car with a bad AFM, as that can screw up the mixture and cause other problems. What about that dent in the rear valance? Ok, it's a decent car, but nothing great.

Actually I think a bunch of people look at these cars without first educating themselves.

Yep, the black paint is very suspicious.

Sounds like it's got even more door dings and dents than my car. Both hoods and one of the fenders are dented. Geez, I don't even have that.

You guys are being really hard on this car.

You're dinging the seller for revealing a bunch of things you'd discover in a PPI on most Carreras for sale on eBay.

Not that Bruce Anderson's pricing charts are realistic in this terrible economy, but doesn't he still show up to a $5K premium for Factory Turbo Look (#470?). It's the complete Turbo chassis -- not just flares.

IMHO, this car will easily bring $26-27K. (half of what a green '56 Thunderbird brought at BK last week).

I only checked this topic as it looked like the first time a thread would be praising an ebay car. All the love just lasted a few posts and it's back to the piling on

that black stuff in the wheel well looks very similar to what they sprayed on mine after the welded it

they call it tecktileren over here in holland, dunno the name in english

it's similar stuff to the factory undercoating , like a thick rubbery paint

Hmmm...I just clicked on the auction link and got this:

Me too. But after searching for a while, I went back to the first post and noticed that it was from January 2004. Ebay deletes auctions after certain amount of time.
