Assuming the mtn road is the choice (currently 12 votes to 0 for PCH), there are two ways to do it.

Once on Glendora Mtn. Road (GMR), you can come back down on same. However, that route was closed 2 months ago. I will call CHP for update.

The other is to turn at Glendora Ridge Road and continue to Mt. Baldy and then back down. This route is much longer, I think Jack said about 90 miles and will take a couple hours due to mtn. speeds.

At the top at the intersection of GMR and GRR is a perfect spot to stop and regroup. Good parking and views.

The gathering/staging place was a market parking lot on Azusa Ave. (Highway 39) just above the 210. I have lost track of the name of the market, but we had it up here once. If they are open early on Sat., we can grab a cup while waiting for the others to arrive. We ought to depart the market at 7:30AM

I am not trying to take over here, in fact, I'd rather not. But I did prerun this and then Jack went up and ran the whole deal. There're a wide variety of roads up there and it is sure to become a favorite of the group.

Do not start up these roads without a full tank of gas and everthing in top shape. Even though it is not very far away as the crow flys, it's way, way out there by road.

UPDATE: According to the San Gabriel office of the Forestry Service, the portion of the GMR between Glendora and GRR is still closed and under construction due to major slides. It will be restored someday. That leaves 2 choices, the whole 90 miles or doubling back. The day use pass ($5) is not necessary to drive through; we may stop as we please, but must remain with the cars and move on within a short period of time.

BTW, the whole forest is CLOSED this weekend, July 3-4 for obvious resons. Too bad we have such idiots in our society that makes this action necessary. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr..........

90 miles is a LOOOONG drive through the mountains, and by the time we all get there, do the drive, and then head home, we'll eat up most of the day. I suggest we double back.

Ahhhhhh... you're killing me!

July 10th... I'll be out of town at Road Atlanta for a race (watching a friend). Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'd rather be cruising my Porsche through the mountains that day.

Enjoy!

That's why I brought it up. Let me check the maps again, there may be a way to make a loop.

I've looked, and there is no other loop. However, I don't see the 90 miles either. More like 50 from the market, up to Mt Baldy Village and back to Claremont. There are some pretty cool restaurants in Claremont.

I would like to see a prompt departure up the mountain at 7:30, drive for an hour and then turn around (assuming a loop is not available). This would allow those with family obligations to be home by 10:30 to 11:00 in most cases.

Of course, there is no reason why those of us on a schedule can't enjoy as much of the drive as possible before peeling off and heading back either.

Since my air conditioning is not hooked up I was thinking a coast run would be more comfortable (but not as exciting).
Driving up the valley into the hills might be a little hot.
No, I don't need any cheese with that whine

I voted "other" as Hugh's suggestion is interesting. With an early start it shouldn't be too hot.

It is looking like the Mt. Baldy run is going to be the route. We need to figure out the details, meeting places and times. I don't know Claremont that well so any and all help is appreciated. As far as the other routes, both myself and my car have plenty of life left so we will get to those in the near future. I am just surprised that is took this long for So.Cal drivers to get together.

By the way I expect to see everyone who voted to be there also. It would be good to put a face to a call sign. Jack, I have seen your picture before so I can probably figure out who you are.

You know, for the last 2 months, it's been one thing after another. CA Speedway POC and HSR races, Dana Point and Huntington Beach, 356 50th, Easter, Mother's Day, Indy 500, PCA autox and some I left out. This comes at a good time. But the last 8 weeks have been crammed!

Ok here is the route I believe. Gentlemen, please check this to make sure this will work. With no stops it is about an hour drive. Also, OC guys it is about 20-30 minutes to get to this location so please no excuses. The more the merrier. We will need a good photo.
