Testing an alternator(external reg)

How can I test my external regulated 911 11 blade alternator?

Can a local auto parts store test it for you?

Most likely but I have a digital volt meter and I'd like to see if there was some way to test one of the three wires to see if there was anything wrong. The reg is less than a year old and my in cab voltmeter seems to be around 12v ish. I just thought it would be higher.

It should be higher, but maybe your voltmeter is off. Try testing the voltage at the battery with the car running. It should read between 13-14 volts.

Autozone tested mine for me. I took the alternator in the fan housing, with the pulley attached. No issues, and it was free!

Thanks so much ...but I'd like to see if this one is bad first. Is there a way to tell?

Also is there a way to check out how much amperage comming out using a DVM?
