Return to Porschedom: My new Speed Yellow 993

Hi, everyone-

It has been three years since I sold my 1988 911 ClubSport, and I've missed it terribly. Two kids and a layoff forced the sale of the CS (no back seats). Since then I've owned a 1990 944 S2 and a 1988 BMW M3 (just sold a few days ago) but nothing compared to the feeling I got while driving a 911. And this board remained my browser home page all the while I was Porsche-less.

I was fortunate enough to find a 1995 993 in Seattle after only a 1-2 month search. Of course, I probably logged more hours online looking for my next 911 than I will actually spend driving it this year.

Don't get me wrong--this will be no garage queen. Check out the pics below and you'll notice the two kiddie seats in the back. They are a perfect fit and my two boys (4.5 and 2) LOVE Dad's yellow car. My oldest son says it sounds like thunder coming down the road. I will be driving them to pre-school, kindergarten, and daycare four seasons of the year. Here in Victoria the weather is mild, but I imagine winter tires for 18" wheels will be a bit pricey.

The car is Speed Yellow, with 43,000 miles. The previous owner installed a front splitter and fixed wing on the back. The 3-piece Speedline wheels complete the 3.8RS visual transformation (gotta lose the basket handle though!). The catalytic converters have been pulled and a new chip installed. The car is "boomy" but not obnoxious. It's fast as hell.

Anyway, here is the car I'm so excited about:

Beautiful! I would seriously consider selling a few of my cars for a 993 RS, esp in yellow.

Sweet!

Nothing quite like a 993 at the correct ride height, with wheels filling the wheel wells.

Looks like a very nice one!

i agree on loosing the basket handle.
Although you have the RS look happening, I don't like cars that are badged to be something they are not. No offence- just my opinion. Personally, i would loose the badge too.

For winter, a set of 17 inch 993 cup wheels with a set of tires that perform well in the wet, and maintain good traction qualities close to the freezing point, would be a nice and relatively cheap option to have.

Enjoy the 993!!

Could you please share your experience importing your 993 - any hiccups with customs, registering and ICBC?
Thanks

That is one of my all time "I WANT ONE OF THOSE!" cars. I dig that fact that you plan on driving it at least part of the winter. Congratulations on a nice prchase.

Damn fine Lance. I bet Kathy would kill you if she knew you parked it on the lawn for the pics! Bring it by and you can enjoy my Targa on jack stands while I wait for our host to deliver my clutch cable (that's a hint to hurry up Wayne!)

Oh Noooo!

It hasn't been a great day for the 993. I took it to a local shop to get a minor oil leak assessed. Turns out it is just the valve cover gaskets. The bad news happened when the Porsche Tech ground the front splitter into the hoist ramp. C-R-U-N-C-H. Not a nice sound. So off comes the splitter and a new one is ordered along with the valve cover gaskets. I guess it's not too too bad, considering there was already a nasty scuff on the bottom of the splitter.

Graham, the lawn will be our little secret, no? Looking forward to seeing your SC.

What a great car! Love the ride height, wheels, tint windows, colour etc. 993s look great with fixed wing. Great find!

Your kids are lucky to have a 'cool dad' to drive them to school in such a car. Bet their friends talk about how their dad drives a Pooorshhe.

What brand are those Child(ren) seats? I have a 5 yr old and have been looking for a seat that would work in the back of my car.
