How do I take off the review mirror, but leave the mounting base
I don't want to pull to hard, as I am afraid I might break the glass, how do I get it to pull up off the base?
Michael

What mirror is this? The one on the door or the one inside the car, in the center top of the windshield?
And if it is the one on the windshield, is it mounted to the roof / headliner or is it glued to the window? If it is the windshield one and it is glued on, you want to put a dull chisel on it and carefully tap upwards. It should slide right off. HTH, George |

Mine has no screw either. It's a spring type. I've never removed it though.

If you mean the one that's attached to the top of the front windshield, you're supposed to slide it up and it'll come off its base.

It should just slide up and off. The original on my car wasn't very tight, the one that they put on when they replaced my windshield was very tight, but it would come off when enough force was applied. I thought there might be a tab that you press or something, but I could never find anything that made a difference.

My '77 orig window had the glue pad between the glass and mirror mount. I would heat the inside and outside with a hair dryer on high and it'll loosen it up. It may then fall off with a finger tap.

Michael:
Putting a new windshield is a DIY in my book. I have done it twice. Maybe a pelicanhead can come over and help. George |
