When I drive over a speed bumb I hear the most awful squeeking.....

Hi all,

When I drive over a speed bumb I hear the most awful squeeking from the rear suspension.....like I'm driving the truck from Sanford And Son...it sounds very embarrasing....

I can make the car squeek by pushing down on the rear of the car.......

I'm a newbie...what am I looking to replace or fix?
Car Had Koni Adjustable shocks installed about 3 months ago.....

Thanx

Your torsion bar or bars are rubbing against something in the tube. You need to remove them, clean them and anything in the tube or mounts and if they are not damaged just put them back in. Do a search on this board and you will find great advice on indexing ride height and everything else you will need to do it yourself.
Good luck

If the noise was coming from the front suspension, the rubbing torsion bar diagnosis might be correct. But this does not happen on the rear, too much clearance for rubbing to happen.

If your spring plate or trailing arm bushings have been replaced with polyurethane, you can be sure you have found the problem. These replacements are notorious for squeaking.

If your spring plate and trailing arm bushings are original, I would suspect the sway bar bushings. You can test this by spraying the bushings with wd40. If the noise goes away, you've found your problem. Replace the bushings.

svonkampen,
I had the same noise on my 930. Bad news is it was the spring plate/torsion bar bushings. I replaced both sides at once, even though it was the drivers side that was making the noise. Replaced with Neatrix bushings. What a differance it made in the ride.

I stand corrected. i had noise coming from the front and that was what it was. Thanks for the advice. I would have hated to send SvK down the wrong road, esp. since he just lives down the coast from me.

Spray a bit of silicon around the place and see if the noise goes away. Mine turned out to be the front sway bar bushes.
