This was originally posted in Tech forums but no answers so Im trying my luck here
I really need help with this stuff Hey I bet youll be as confused as I am by the end of this post! '70 911T I removed the airbox and the oil vent hose was disconnected and the thinner hose that also connects to the vent was disconnected and gone , but then there was an even smaller line that went from side to side on the airbox, and was connected to thin metal piping in the airbox on either side. What are these for? I am not keeping the airbox so what do I do with this hose that connects to the metal piping. The carbs are zeniths if that makes any difference... Also I found a small hose sitting on top of the shroud and it had been disconnected. The only parts that I could find around that area that had similar size to connect the line to were a random pipe sticking out pretty close to what looked like a FPR (which also looked like the line would fit on it) on top of the engine. The only problem is that the line is several inches long and those two places I could connect it to were an inch or two away from each other. When I pulled the airbox four of the velocity stacks were zinc plated steel (I think) and then the other two were black plastic which were stock? Why would two be different? Ok the AC was disconnected when I bought the car and the compressor was gone, so I removed the condensor. Well now I found a thick hose that has what looks like the Ac connector ends on it and the hose runs out of the car through the right rear quarter panel and runs to the front. Is this an AC hose? can I remove it? Ok I want to remove a much weight as possible so I want to take out all ac related stuff while still keeping the heating system because I was told in order for a car to be street legal it had to have at least a heater (for defrost I guess). So I just need heat to the front window. Im at work right now and couldnt find my camera last night, also I almost passed out working on the car between the high temp and all the engine cleaners I used; it looked almost like an oil spill because of all the dirt and muck that got washed out of the engine bay. Ive tried to describe everything from memory as best as is possible, but if you need pics Ill see if I can find the camera and post some. Thanks for the help! |

Don't fret, these are easy problems to over come.
In the bottom of the air box there should be a plastic T type shape with three connectors. On the right side you will connect the breather hose from the oil tank on the right side of the car. This hose will be about 1.25" ID. On the left will be the hose for the charcoal cannister up front. This hose is about 5/8" ID. Both of the previouse hoses will be cloth coated rubber. Teh bottom connection will be small for a drain line that will run down to the right and out the engine compartment. You are correct about a 4th hose. This will connect to the engine shroud directly behind the fan by the cross bar for the carb linkage. It forms a loop to the front of the car, into the charcoal cannister (by driver side batt) and returns through the hose on the left described above. that's the emmisions equiptment on the car. The AC hoses will be a red rubbery material. They will run down the pass side into the smuggler's box, to the front conderser, out to the receiver/drier in the driver front fender well and back to the rear of the car. You can remove all of these items. you can always use the search button in teh upper right corner of this page to search for any question. AC removal has been covered in more detail. good luck.

sounds like the airbox could be from a mfi car instead of carb setup . the small hose would be for the cold start selenoid on top the fuel filter housing . which would explain the extra foot of hose on the drivers side . the hose should be about the same diameter as vacuum hose . but just a guess ?
