I've been quoted a price of $1600 to recover my stock 911SC seats in leather. However, I've located a set of sport seats from a Carrera that are full leather with power that would be an option to recovering my seats. They are in good shape with a slight amount of wear on one of the driver seat bolsters.
If I decide to buy the sport seats, how much is a fair price? I don't have a clue how much they are worth. I'm considering removing the motors and not connecting the power to lighten them up some. I only need forward and back anyway. The only problem is the seats are black. Mine are cork but with the black trim in my car, I think leaving them black would still look fine. |

The motors aren't heavy, the seat bottom mechanics are.
Sorry, I don't know what they are going for.

I got my seats for $1100 three years ago. They're cloth RS America sport seats in very good condition. Seems to me the price has gone up a bit on sport seats. For $1600, you should be able to get a pair of excellent condition Porsche sport seats. If you are really desiring the support and lightweight issues, for the same money you might want to consider something like the Recaro SRD or Pole Position, Sparco, Momo, Cobra, etc. I know you can get a set of Pole Position seats for less than $1600. Some of the other brands mentioned are cheaper yet. Just remember that many of them have fixed seatback angles (SRD is adjustable).
Also depends on what year are the Carrera seats. The shape/design of them changed a little bit, somewhere around 1985. I personally like the later post-85 sport seats. Earlier ones look a bit dated in my opinion. The power seats are indeed heavy. The RS America seats (4 way front-rear tilt) are much heavier than the non-power, non-sport partial leather passenger seat that originally came in my car. But the additional support of the sports is a nice upgrade. The cool thing about the black seats you're considering? A little black shoe polish on that worn bolster (actually the whole seat if you feel like it) and you're looking almost like new. I kid you not. Made my original '87 seats look great!

Good info.
It sounds like if I should be able to get excellent condition sports seats for less than the $1600 cost to refurbish my existing leather seats. I think I'll take that route and just stick my original seats in storage. I probably should shop around before I drop this much money on a set of seats though.

I am also in the market for new seats for my '86 Carrera. I purchased my car with Recaro seats in it and they were stolen this past weekend.
My question is, are 1986 Carrera's wired for power seats? If so, is it for the driver's seat only or both seats? If one or both seats are not pre-wired, how difficult is it to wire the car for power seats and what might the project cost? Thanks, -T

Tony,
I think pwr drivers seat was standard in 86. My 87 was a power drivers seat and manual pass. However, it's wired for both sides. I'd bet yours is as well. It's easy enough to find out. The connectors should be between the rails.
