SCWDP members...some numbers help?
Guys, I'm a longnose numbers guy...I looked at an "83 SC" today for a friend, looking for a car for his wife. VIN# thru the windshield was WPOAA0915D5122196. Engine # 64D4580. Ahhh, but here comes the rub. The number stamped in the trunk, under the carpet? ZZZ91ZDS122196. BTW, NO sticker in the driver's door sill. Opinions???

The car is a US model 83 - in fact, it came off the line not long before mine. The chassis number is always European (with the ZZZs) elsewhere on the car - my 944 and 928 are the same. And if the VIN comes back as invalid, it's because the digit after the D (which signifies 1983 model year) is supposed to be an S (to signify place of manufacture - Stuttgart), not a 5. Common mistake - one of my titles has it as well.
