2.0 engine ideas

hi

forgive the non technical input of this post but I wonder what options are open to me with a 2.0 67 engine that resides in a car i may purchase....long term i would like to incease the power although the car is a weekend driver
with the odd bit of track use for fun......what could I expect in power should i upgrade the relevant parts to "S" spec ,ie cams, pistons , rods etc(its std 2.0 now with webers).....or could i raise the displacemnt much within reason re cost...dont want a full blown twin plug beast , but maybe MFI if i could find a system......i have looked at the HPX system to remove the dist (more for reliability than power)..so...getting long winded...whats the nest middle ground !!!..id like to get the power up to 180-190 if poss as the 911's ive had have been 2.4/2.7/3.0 so like the power but alos like the ealry free revving feel of the early cars.....i dont want to do an engineswap though...want to stay with matching nos....any thoughts guys ?

As I recall the 69 S motor had 170hp. Seems like you could get there with heads, cams, exhaust and high compression pistons (but not too high to retain single plug). You could also increase displacement to fit bigger P&Cs but I think you'd have to machine the case. Here's a good place to start: http://www.911handbook.com/

If you are not going crazy with it, you can save the money on the Electromotive. I run it with my twin plug but I have a beast.

I would go to S specs and perhaps some really hot cams. A fancy exhaust would help.

Hey chap,

I run a current version based on the 906 cams. They are (IMHO) track only as they are extremely peaky. You could get some of Gerry Woods cams for that engine or stick with S cams.

You should try to get some 69 S heads due to the large valve sizes they offer. I personally run Cosworth pistons but at such high compression that you must use fancy fuel and twin plugs.'

If cost is no object, I'd check with them to see if they offer a "not so hot" piston. You could also get some JE's. I'd get some Pauter rods with ARP bolts.

As to exhaust, the megaphones sound awesome but you'll get tired quickly of the noise (I dont but.....). There is a new set up around (do a search for userneme Minkoff for details) which is a header which is basically 2 3 into 1's which are then joined into a single pipe.

I understand that the car will not sound Porsche anymore but the BHP gains are reportedly significant. My mechanic tells me that they sound more like a race Ferrari engine that a Porsche. Not sure if this would be a street application though.

Cheers, Juan
