fenders rolled/ bilsteins 15x8's NO RUBBING!!!

ok guys no real reason for posting BUT i just gotta tell SOMEONE,...... i have been working on my lil project on and off over the last couple of months (i travel alot w/work lil time) and today it was completed with a happy ending......

i switched to 15x8's w/ 215-50-15's in the rear of my 74 911, and had a little rubbing, had the fenders rolled, still rubbed a little bit..... now i just got some bilsteins with a stiffer ride,.... and WAALLLLAAAA! no rubbing at all...... tire sits right under the flare and is tucked nicely...... i drove home and hit some turns really hard,...... as i went into turns the tires tucked in and NADA! NOTHING, ZERO rubbing.... WWAAHHOOOOO...... small victory for me........

thanks for listening! thats it......

Alexander

BTW,..... thanks for the bilsteins DEAN,.......... perfect!

Yeah, nothing on my car is standard.

But I was thinking of the amount of camber David (DD74) had to dial to get 8's to fit on his narrow car.

Actually, I run 8's on the rear of my narrow body car for autox with no problem. Fender lips are rolled and the car has late model aluminum trailing arms though. There is enough room with the Revolution wheels shown that I can probably get a 9 under there! I would still be limited to the 225/45 or 225/50/15 tire though.

The catch is getting a wheel with the right offset which is nearly impossible if you want to stick with fuchs. I think the 16x8 fuchs from the 951 will work but I have yet to test them.

Your car looks great though! Any more pics?

Very nice looking car. An early whale tail would probably look good, although it looks pretty good now with everything blacked out. If it were mine, I would replace the bumpers with IROC look pieces. That would be really slick.

Your profile is San Fransisco. Have you relocated or do you consider socal local?

The 15x8s in the pics above look a little scary to me. Not much clearance there at all. Have you rolled your fender lips? Did you go with bigger t-bars in addition to the Bilsteins to help keep the wheels from rubbing? I'm running standard 15x7s on the back of my '72 and they just fit with a little additional camber. standard offset 8" Fuchs would be a real challenge without pulling the fenders out, rolling the lips, and running more negative camber.

The 16x8 951 wheel on the back of a unflared car trick is risky, but it has been done and documented here. The offset on the 951 wheel is a little more favorable than a standard 8 wheel if you are going to try this.

You may also want to contact pelicanite's 'Mark Wilson' or 'rdane'. They are spec'ing and building 16x8 custom offset 2 piece wheels that should be even easier to fit on the back of an unflared car than a 951 16x8 Fuch wheel.

Here's a shot of the custom 16x8 on the front of Mark's car:

shuie,

ya i kinda took a risk but it worked out. the bilsteins are stiff enough were no addtional modifications were made.... YES the fenders have been rolled as i mentioned in the initial thread. the fenders were stretched a little bit..... maybe 1.5 inches.... and then the bilsteins were added, and now nothing..... just got that done last night. this morning i thougth i would drive it to work and drove pretty hard around some corners and no rubbing, i even looked in my rear view mirror in the turn to take a peek at what was happening, tire tucked in under the fender and didnt hit at all....... then had to get my eyes back on the road..... hehehehe. i had 15x7's int he rear for years (10) but just loved the deep 8's, went for it and it has worked out well,... should have done this years ago!

Nice work. Sorry, I missed that about the rolled fenders. Your paint looks great, I just didnt want to see it get burned. Great looking narrow body!
