Need Photoshop help...
Would like to pre-view a possible mod I'm considering to offer a friend.
For an SC/Carrera body style of the 80's....notice that there is a rubber rub strip that runs along the rocker panel. The rocker panel below is typically body colored. Can I see a photoshopped-pic of how this would look with the lower rocker black ( or matte black) instead of body color? My opinion is that this would make the car look "lower". If this isn't OT..maybe even against a metallic silver car...with and without the black turbo spats in front of the rear wheel wells ??? TIA... Wil ![]() |

Makes it look lots higher to me.
![]() plus the continuous line from front to back is broken up. I wouldn't do it.

What if the same elevation lower black continues for front and rear valences ?....... I see a number of cars this way to lower the sight line.
Thanks for the response !! No harm thinking about this through the virtual world first !!! ---Wil

....".the opposite is true".....
Really? Look at various cars...maybe VW Passats and Golfs with this feature...and envision how much "taller" these cars would look if the body color extended all the way down. As it is, they have a 1-2" band of matte black around the bottom that makes the rest of what you "see" ( body color) seem less tall. For a really grotesque example...think of how less Fat-Arsed the C5 Corvette would look from the rear if they had a lower black band. ( "Honey...do I look fat in this dress ??").... IMHO anyway...and we're just playing around with the concept.... ---Wil

Will, I took your statement 'this would make the car look "lower" '
to mean the car would appear lower to the ground. If you meant it to mean make the car body look 'thinner', or less deep, then yes,you are correct. Here is an example of a 3 series BMW . Picture on the left with body color lower cladding. The car looks lower to the ground than the car on the right. It also looks like it's body is taller than the car with the black lower cladding. ![]() sorry, not a great picture/example, but it the only one I had on my hard drive that i could think of ![]() cheers, max

Ok.... I see the point ...but let's not get silly.
Maxnine 11 showed a proper blackening of the lower portion of the body, and yes... I was talkin about the apparent "thin-ness" of the body with the method. However, K. Roman is obviously taking some "liberties" to exaggerate the lower painted body. Obviously, this will look "lower" ( to the ground)...but holy smokes..that is *not* a stock rocker !!!! .... ![]() ---Wil

here is another example Wil.
As you state, the black lower portion makes the car look thinner..... longer and sleeker ..'lighter'. That is why the technique is used by auto manufacturers to make short, squat cars look a little longer. The car with the painted rockers looks 'thick' through the waist. It appears shorter and 'heavier'. It also appears closer to the ground. ![]() Maybe K. Roman can photoshop some sparks coming off of those rockers he installed ![]() ![]() max

Anyway....this gives me something to work with.
Any similar pics using Turbo body showing the shark-fin "spats" and how they integrate with the lower molding ??? I know I'm asking a lot !......... ---Wil

yep, blacked-out rockers have never looked quite right to me (on any car). I have seen 911 rockers done in a contrasting color (other than black) which continued on the front and rear valances which looked kinda cool. Anyhow, here is another before/after photochop for you:

Eric:
Thank you very much ..this helps! Maybe it's because we never see 911's this way... that makes it seem so odd with black rockers... but on your white cab example, I can envision this not looking bad if the same height of "black" continues on the front and back valances.... However as I squint my eyes I can understand why this wouldn't look good, too. It's really a question of whether we think the mid-section is too fat ( or not)...or if the body color making it look closer to the ground is better. --Wil

IMHO , it looks minging to blacken the rockers and not do the same to the front and rear bumper...
it could work if those would be equally treated... and the continious line would be restored...
