Porsche Guru Comes to Mid-Missouri!
Obviously lost, Grady Clay showed up on my doorstep last weekend. Grady was a major part of the Porsche scene in Denver. Had a shop there for 27 years in the 60's through the '80's. Just sitting in my garage talking to Grady was an eye opening experience. Talking about Porsche racing in the '60's and 70's from a guy that was there! He's coming back for a return visit in a month or so. I can hardly wait. Oh and I did manage to get a picture.

I see you got a pic of Grady with your car, but what was Grady driving?
I hear he has some "interesting" cars, did he bring one of those?

Kurt,
Tell him to stop at Stevensons Apple farm in KC on the way next time and bring some of their smoked chicken for the two of you. Nothing like it and it mixes well with beer and talking about Porsches! JoeA

No,
Unfortunately a 911 with a hitch won’t tow a horse and trailer. ![]() Obviously lost – my eye. Here we are driving down the road minding our own business and this Jeep Grand Cherokee comes roaring up, horn blaring and driver madly gesturing. The first thing through our minds is the horse trailer door is open and the horse is half-way out. Gasp! Guess who? Kurt V. He lives in 911 road country. Great turns and hills and smooth pavement. I just pray he doesn’t meet someone in a PU on the wrong side of the road. Kurt has a really cool home shop. Two cars deep for engine work and the 911. Plenty of room around, even with the car doors are open. Great lights, A/C, heat, work area, tools, etc. and sealed off from the bikes, moto, garden equipment, and other cars. On our long drive back to Denver I thought of more ways for Kurt to spend his money. I’m looking forward to 3 weeks from now. What Pelicans are in the KC area or along I-70? Best, Grady |

Andy,
I told you my old 35 mm cameras were still OK. Hmmm … perhaps I should photo the financial pages. I should figure out how to turn off the date function. Thanks again for the ride. Are you going to Pueblo? Bill, That was one of those trips I don’t like to make. We left Denver (Franktown) about 4 PM after trouble shooting the running lights on the horse trailer (fuse in truck.) It was already raining hard. It rained all the way from Denver to Topeka. Some was the hardest rain I have ever been in – including some east-coast hurricanes. We got to bed in Pleasant Hill, MO (KC area) at 4:50 AM. With only 4 hours of sleep and the stress of driving through the deluge that would cause Noah cardiac arrest, I wasn’t in top form with Kurt V. Regardless, we had fun. The trip home was easier; it only rained from KC to Topeka. There was so much standing water on I-70 that a 911 would float away. Even this heavy truck and almost 1” tread would hydroplane at slow speeds. Best, Grady

JoeA,
If you are talking about: Stephenson’s Old Apple Farm Restaurant 16401 East 40 Highway Kansas City, MO 64136-1301 816-373-5400 At US 40 and Lee’s Summit Road. Yes, we have eaten there. Good stuff. It is a few miles from the KC barn we use in Pleasant Hill, just down MO 291. I’ll try and make it a point to order up some goodies in three weeks. Weather permitting, Kurt and I will have a family BBQ at his house. Thanks for the tip. I accused Kurt of being (unintentionally?) the “Lone Wolf 911” in central Missouri. He may be the only 911 between Kansas City and St. Louis. Good for him. Thankfully he is a dedicated DIY guy and has built a really nice 911. Best, Grady

Grady,
Yes Sir! Thats the place and the best food in that area IMHO! I used to live in Springfield and traveled all through the state and fell in love with Stevensons. A long drive is always made better by dreaming of good food at your destination! Lots of Porsche people in SW MO, so get down that way. Very nice roads around the various lakes as well so its good sports car country. Take care, Joe
