Position of 911SC logo on rear deck lid

Hi,

I've been searching the forums as I'm sure this has been discussed/documented before, but I can't find it. Can anyone tell me the positioning of the "911SC" logo on the rear deck?

Thanks.

Geoff

The 911SC emblem is made to fit a set of holes drilled through a correct lid. Are you trying to fit one to a different tail? This is what I did, with double-sided, super-thin sticky tape, when I added a 3.2 Carrera tail to my car...

Pete,

When I painted my car, I prepared two deck lids. I bought a tail and wanted to have the option of going with our without the tail. I've had the tail on the car for almost a year now, and pulled out the other deck lid and wanted to mount it to see how it looks. When I prepped both deck lids, I filled in all the mounting holes, so I don't have any reference for where the logo goes.

You're showing one with a tail mounted - I think without the tail, the 911SC logo is mounted a bit higher, right under the grill. I need the exact position so I can drill new holes.

Thanks.

Geoff

I set up my car based on where the "Turbo Carrera" was put on a 3.0 Turbo, and my body guy did such a fantastic job closing off the original emblem holes that I cant find them on the underside of the original lid! I will look for a template in my factory manual tomorrow...

Mine is exactly 13 and 1/16" from the top lip of the decklid to the top of the emblem in its center. And it is exactly 13 and 5/16" from the left lip of the decklid to the left side of the emblem.

Pete

Did the scrip originaly had 5 pins, and you cut them off?

I presently have a Carrera scrip that seem to have been glue on as there are no speed nut under.

Yes, my SC emblem had five pins, which I cut off and filed flat to the emblem. I cut pieces of two-sided sticky tape to fit so that you can't see the tape without a magnifying glass, layed out the emblem's position with painters tape and stuck it on.

Carrera emblems were all stick-on, that's why you see so many of them incorrectly placed on re-painted cars!

Great

What is the easy way to remove the present one with out leaving marks?

That is a great question, for which I have no answer! If you want to replace it with a new one you won't have to worry about paint fade, etc. I'm guessing that getting the old one off can be a combination of heat, Goo-Gone (sp?) or similar, and dental floss, but before trying it I would definitely talk with a body shop that repairs/paints 911s!

Will do and post the result at some point.

Thanks Pete

Thanks for the replies and placement position. Now I'm wondering if I should file the pins off and stick it on - sounds like a neat way to do it.

My factory manual does not have an emblem template, sorry!

If you are not running a tail, then it's exactly 2 inches from the bottom of the grill outlet to the top of the "911" in "911 SC".

If you are running a tail, then it's about 7 inches or so from the bottom of the decklid to the bottom of the script.

This is for a Carrera, but it might explain what I'm measuring. A visual usually helps.

This should have been answered by someone with a stock, original SC right at the start, for crying out loud.
Maybe get a Carrera and go through the same process. The SC had HOLES at least! Come on...
I appreciate the Carrera info; and I think Peter's work looks good, but I'd "raise" it one inch.....

Therein lies the problem. If that "grille outlet" measurement is not interpreted as meant a mistake can occur. Is that two inches from the bottom of the actual grille insert, or from the opening through the lid, or from the curved part of the lid that drops away? And if it's the curve, is it from the top of the curve, or the bottom of the curve?

rusnak, I'm not trying to be a smart ass, or argumentative, but when I was an apprentice my boss asked me to make a measurement for him. It didn't go too well, so can your measurement include a diagram, or at least a clarification? Please?

I can certainly appreciate Pete's point regarding ambiguity.

I did go outside and measure a bone-stock 911SC. Here's where I got the 2 inch measurement:
