Oil problem.

When I took of the oil-cap to check the oil, the engine stops. Is there any other way to check the oil quantity?

Per-C,
Most 911's will slow the idle when the oil cap is removed, if yours stalls your idle may be too low or there are other issues with ignition or feul delivery. Tell us a bit more about your car and what the current idle is at and some of the immense talent on this board will jump in to help. (note I may be immense but I am NOT talented and resent any implication thereof)

I used to check the oil with one hand on the throttle and the other on the disptick. Not fun, but it works. I *think* I fixed the problem with new intake gaskets, misc seals and vacuum hoses.

I think that even if your engine has stopped just prior to taking out the dipstick, you would still get the same reading as if the engine remained running.

You didn't mention the yr or model, but there is supposed to be a restrictor in the oil tank vent of late cars to prevent excess unmetered air from causing the engine to stall when the oil cap is removed.

Do a search the part # has been posted several times.

I hope that I am remembering this correctly, because I might not:

If your motor dies when taking off the oil cap then there is a leak in a vacuum hose. I did not find what I was looking for on a search for Vacuum Leaks, but I did not have much time to search either. If this is the case, tracking down the leaking hose (most likely culprit) should be a fairly simple job that will consume up to a couple of hours and some beer.

Your English is fine. Better than many I talk to in The States every day!!

Oh, and welcome aboard!!! We have many other members from The North!!! Hopefully one is near you!

Take a pair of vicegrips and place it on the hose ( basicaly pinching the hose closed) that runs from the oil filler neck to the back of the engine. There should be a (tiny funnel) restrictor in one of the hoses, if this is missing there is the issue.
