Mulholland Run 08.22.04
Hey fellas, Eugene (at Pelican Parts) and I were talking about making a run up to the Mulholland area this Sunday. We're not set on a time, meeting place, or route, but figured some other Pelican heads would want to join up. Maybe an early meeting at Gelson's - Calabasas?
SmileWavy |
i'll probably be up there somewhere. don't know what my plan is yet.
|
I was just going to suggest one myself.
They did one last weekend that I missed... maybe we could just use their map? |
Howard has another thread for a 'not Mulholland" run also if you want to look into something different.
Andrew |
Yeah, looks like there's going to be a number of runs this weekend. The "Not Mulholland" run, the Ortega run, and this run.
|
lets do it. gelsons @ 11am. its a great ride all the way to the beach
|
Mulholland's fine with me, but there were a few complaints about tight course for faster cars, so I thought we'd try another.
We all bought these cars to exercise them, and I'm amazed how rarely it's done. I can only polish the thing so long, and would like to have the breakfast run option every weekend. |
11am? way too late imho. Unless you want to play with bikes and cops.
|
What are you guys, drug dealers? I'll be there. I think it needs to be early. Hey porcupine, I was there last week. Do you have a red 911. Try to place everyone with their real name and screen name is a mess. But again, I am kinda dumb. I'm the guy w / the red 930. Jeff

Just messing with ya! He had the nice '73? blue coupe. Andrew |

11am?!?
I was thinking 7am or 7:30am meet time, then start driving a half hour later. Like Todd said, we've gotta avoid the crowds of cops and bikes that'll show up later. Any suggestions on the route? |
btw, i like to get started between 6:30 and 7am. i usually end up at the village coffee roaster in calabasas around 9. sometimes there are a bunch of european cars there.
"not mulholland" might be a nice change, but i prefer the tight twisties and my own pace. plus i like to explore. boy am i antisocial! :) |

anyways not sure if i can make it guys cause i'm gonna probably be in vegas! we'll see. cheers though... http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pint1.gif |

Oooohh hell yeah Jared...
That means three '83 SCs so far... :Cue nutty SCWDP laugh: Muuuhahahahaa |
Called off Frazier Park run, so deal me in. Time/Place??
|
How about 7am at Gelson's - Calabasas. Fire the engines at 7:20-7:30ish?
http://gelsons.com/stores/stores.asp?store=Calabasas Howard, you put together a very nice route last weekend. Any ideas? |
Instead of the long run on Potrero out to PCH, why not include Yerba Buena to PCH then down PCH and coming back up Decker + throwing in other roads on the way out and back or whatever? Or something? Anybody? Hello?

Problem with run DOWN Decker, Encinal, or God forbid Latigo to the beach are the dropoffs. Kinda like running a hillclimb backwards, and the temptation to lift throttle is too great. Higher driver ability required, so not on my watch. That's why the long run out Portrero and then the uphill blast, it's safer. But I'm the follower this time. Just want to end up @Super Tommy's for my breakfast burrito fix. Burrito! |
Ahh. I was hoping someone who knows these roads better would pipe up. I just thought it would be good to try some new roads. Any other ideas? Is up Decker OK? We have roads up here that are safer one direction than the other too.
Oh, and I am always willing to follow you Howard. Although come to think of it, I'm not so sure that's a great idea after what you did to SLITS last time.:) Andrew |

By that, I mean the one that leaves at 9:30 or 10:00 in the morning? (How do you guys get up so early?) Inspiration: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092797180.jpg |

You wanna rent one for awhile? |
I had a great time last weekend, either Gelsons or Coco's again would be great, count me in. If we did the same route/map as last weekend's run, I wouldn't exactly be dissapointed. Sometimes it's nice to become familiar with the roads so you know where you can and can't push the car. Plus it's pretty convenient to most people that attended. Howard, a stop for breakfast at Super Tommy's I think would definately be in good order ;) Mmmm...that Denver Omlet was GOOOD!!!!!!! But I'm open to new roads, I just want to get in and drive. I think the 7am starting time was a good start time (even if I did show up late!!!), early enough to avoid a lot of the traffic/hazzards and to appease the early birds and late enough to get enough sleep that you're not tired during the run. Hopefully I'll have my new Recaro's in by then!!! Whatever the route we do, someone please post a map so we could print it out and all be on the same page incase someone like myself shows up late, they can still catch up or meet the rest of the group along the way. I can't wait, I'm getting excited all over again!!!
Scott aka Mouse |
You dead set on the time? I'd sure like to get just a little more shut eye on a Sunday.
|
maybe identify a middle rendezvous point for sleepy head? :D
|
Nothing is dead set, but I do think we should start out early. I like the idea of a middle rendezvous point, maybe the early birds could start on the PCH side and meet the "druggers" closer to the 101, then cruise back to PCH for breakfast as a group? I dunno, just throwing out an idea...
I really don't have enough knowledge of the roads in that area to be route master, so I'll leave that to more expereinced minds. SmileWavy |
I'll tag along with my MINI like last time. I don't want to bring the 911 out, it's not ready or safe for canyon-carving just yet.
|
Jeff i know you and Scott Kelly. I can ID you two. Andrew thanks for telling me who porcupine is. And you, Andrew, you were in that trick out Ford. Wow I feel a little better now. Thanks guys. This weekend may be bad for me. If I can, I'll see you guys @ Gelson's. Jeff

We've driven a pretty good route a couple of times, out there. We meet up at the Gelson's in Calabasas (22277 Mulholland Hwy), head south on Mulholland Hwy to Stunt Road, up to the top of the hill, right on Schueren Road, right at the stop sign, onto Piuma, all the way to Las Virgenes, right, until you go left onto Mulholland Highway again, which you take all the way past the Rock Store, all the way to -- a choice -- Encinal, Decker (Westlake), Yerba Buena, or just continuing on Mulholland Highway all the way to the PCH. Then we could take Encinal to Mulholland to Kanan to back over the hill and over to Super Tommy's.
A map of the area: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092815482.jpg Of course, with all that said, I like the idea of maybe a midway point where the drug dealers could hook up with the early birds. And at this point, I can't be 100% certain I'll be able to get out that way at all this weekend -- but my fingers are crossed. |
I'd love to make a first-time show and meet some of you guys. Final plan yet? I'll be there in my blue GTI.
|
i've enjoyed jack's recommended route several times before. it gets my vote.
|
I've been on parts of what Jack suggested, good stuff, I'm in. I also vote for earlier rather than later, 7ish.
|
I really advise against running Decker (and especially Latigo) unless you already know the road, they are quite challenging. Jack's route is really the best IMHO
|
I'm in. I think I said that...
|
I've always had fun on that route, let's do it.
How about taking Yerba Buena down to PCH instead of Decker? Jack-O claims it's a fun little twisty section. |
