Clutch Hanging Up on Return...

What would be the source of a problem where the clutch actually hangs up on the release (from the floor back up)?....It almost feels like it is wanting to stop halfway, it does come up with pretty decent pressure, but just not smooth....could this be the helper spring? Would this be damaging my transmission? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had the exact same symptoms when my helper spring was touching the gearbox when the pedal was on the way up. It was obvious when looking at the gearbox. The mark was clear on the casing.
My solution was to remove the halper spring, and bingo! smooth and so much more feel.

Thanks George, is the helper spring located directly below the pedal box under the car is it located further back near the axle. I want to be sure I am looking at the proper spring!
Thanks!

The helper is under the gear box and on the clutch lever arm near where the cable attaches. Check for cracks or signs of broken-off leaves.

Mine did this recently and it was just the adjuster screw on the tranny had backed out. Readusted it and everything's fine again.
