How do I remove the wire that goes to the coil? It seems like it's permanently connected to the darned thing and I'm afraid to just yank on it.
..and by the way, why did my old braided wires need a ground and my new wires don't. THANKS!

I can get the rubber boot back, but does the wire just then pull out. It seems pretty tight, so I was hesistant to just yank it.

Just give it a yank once you have the boot off the coil. I thought you were replacing the wire so if you do damage the wire with the big yank it no big lost.
Someone at PORSCHE thought the backfiring that was blowing up all the airboxes was due to the spark plug wire so they decided to shield the wire. Last edited by ruf-porsche; 08-26-2004 at 11:40 AM.. |

I ran into this problem myself just last week.
I took a pair of pliers and grabbed the plug at the thickest point and turnd it slightly until I felt it break free, then it came out easily. Good luck.

I pried on mine with a flat head screwdriver until the thing popped out. Of course, I replaced the coil, too.

Mine is an '86, but it seems similar: just pull real hard, and it'll come. I put it back on when I was done putting the engine back in, and the car still runs, too, so I don't think I did much damage.
