To short shift or not to short shift?
I cannot decide; I need your help please.
I have a '86 911 (915 tranny) and I'm contemplating the Wevo shifter and coupling. I've read all the other topics on the subject and have narrowed it down to the Wevo. Here's my question, is it really worth it? My car shifts perfectly, no grinding, and can even put it in first while still rolling. There is no slop in 5th, and only about 1/2 inch in all other gears. I find the shifting to be very easy. I actually like the feel of it and the fact that it makes me slow down my shifts (which is good). I also like the fact that I'm learning how to operate the original equipment. Part of me does not want to modify ANYTHING on the car. The other part of me wants a little more modern feel and a shorter shift: the throw is long. Also, during spirited driving I've gotten "lost" in the 1-2 and 3-4 plain, which is annoying and really messes up the rythm. I do not plan on tracking the car, although I'd really like to do a DE or two to really get to know it. It's a weekend only car (for now). What are your opinions? Will the Wevo really enhance my "Porsche experience"? Is it really worth it? Thanks!! Al |

Hey Scott,
Happy Saturday night!!! I've read everything on the post. Most people love the feel of the Wevo, which is why I'll go with that if I decide. I guess what I'm more interested in is this... Has anyone decided to NOT upgrade and why? Al |

Yes...because it is worth it. No, because it is a LOT of money.

I have not heard a single complaint from anyone who has driven the Wevo. I personally have the factory short shifter and believe it is just fine for my needs at this time. I view the Wevo as more race oriented and the factory shifter a great alternative for someone that wants to keep a semi-stock appearance for their car. The Wevo also gets a lot more involved $$$ when you get into the shift gate and other internal upgrades.
