Help!!!!

Hello,

I have been trying to fix a problem on my early 1980 911 SC (build 02/80 according to documentation).

The problem is that as the temperature goes up, so does the Idle speed (up to 1800 RPM when the temperature needle is horizontal) from a 600 RPM when cold (I mean, just after warm up).

This is not a stuck throttle cable problem (already checked).
I checked the power going to the valvy thing on top of cylinder 5, but power is going there (I however do not know if the thing actually works...)

any help would be MORE than welcome...

cyrille

Ho, and I do not think that it is not a deceleration valve problem as the IDLE speed does not go back to normal if I slightly engage the clutch.

regards, cyrille

It goes against my nature to help the French but here goes... J/K
I had a similar thing happen on my 3.0 and I found that it was the Auxillary air regulator. The heating element inside it had died and the small wheel inside it was not closing. I tested it by pulling the hose and plugging both ends once the car was warmed up.

thanks for the info, and if it helps you, I am only 50% french, the other 50% is swiss :-)

the auxillary air regulator, this is the unit bolted on top of cylinder 5, isn't it?
it is hard to find documentation where you have the location of items and their names, which makes it dificult for a sunday mechanic to learn, and is very frustrating :-)

thanks, cyrille

Yeah its a weird looking silver thing with a 2 wire connector going into it and a vacuum line on either side of it. I just pulled one side and put some duct tape on the end and pushed the hose back over it to block the air flow.
