Any easy way to get the caliper dust shields off
Help - I've got a dental pick but it doesn;t seem strong enough - any other ideas?

If the calipers are still mounted, put some thin, old pads back in and press the pistons out with the brake pedal. When the pistons protrude, the steel ring holding the dust covers comes off easy with a small screwdriver. If the dust covers are old and torn, the oistons may have rust on them. Complete overhaul? If the calipers are out, use compressed air but watch your eyes and fingers!

What are you trying to do? Rebuild the calipers? If the dust covers are shot, the calipers are ready for rebuild.
Take caliper off and apply compressed air. BANG! Careful. Good idea to wear goggles and limit travel of the piston(s). Bleeding the brakes and getting the pistons to come out when rebuilt is the hardest part... George |

Yes, I am rebuilding, yes, already got the pistons out. Had a little difficulty with the dust shied but finally got it with a small screwdriver. I just didn't want to mar the finish.

Oh, I see Jeremy. On mine the seals came out with the pistons. Glad you got them. Never hurts to be careful...
